or he's backing another candidate whose ability to raise funds and command attention is threatened by even the possibility of a Gingrich candidacy

Newt would be my favorite candidate, but unfortunately I don't think he can overcome the baggage and win a general election.

You choose to be a catholic, you're not born one. Catholicism is a religion.
Being Jewish is either a nationality and or a religion.
If someone is hated for being of the Jewish race, which arabs do, thats racism.
If someone is "hated" for their religion, thats bigotry or stupidity.
If someone is voted for or against, because of their religion, they call that discretion.

If Newt is nominated, he will be like Nixon in 1968, media detested, voter approved.

Since JFK the Presidency goes to the sexiest, most, telegenic, most personable person in the race.Yep, that explains Johnson, Nixon, Carter and Bush I.

Why are the Libs in the media telling the American people that Republicans won't vote for a Mormon?
I like Mitt, and I hope he gets a chance tell us what he wants to do as President.

It may be a racist refusal to vote for a Mormon
Mormons aren't a "race."
It's tiresome to continue to see this misuse of language, notably by the Left, but even by centrist writers who should know better.
"Bigoted" would be the correct term.

It may be a racist refusal to vote for a Mormon... I was unaware that Mormons were a race. I was also unaware that theological concerns were out of bounds in politics.

What is in Newt's past? He was cleared of all the ethics charges brought against him. It's just too bad that the stupid Republicans were too chicken to go to bat for him. They were all scared of their shadows. You'll get no argument from me. But if he runs, we'll hear the same-o drubbing and parsing of his remarks, see unflattering pictures of him all over the tabloids, read quotes taken out of context, etc. That's what the DBM/MSM are all about. To the left, I doubt there is no one more threatening and dangerous to stopping their agenda in its tracks than Newt Gingrich. For that, they'll throw everything at him, including their kitchen sinks.

Newt is undoubtably the most qualified conservative out there to run for President in 2008.
His knowledge and experience over a wide range of issues really transcends the other conservatives in the race, and his 1994 Contract for America campaign shows he has the political smarts.
Yes, the MSM and the liberals will attack him , but I think that Newt can be a winner if he sticks to the issues and take the high road in 08.

yes it does explain it. Look at their opponents and consider incumbency. (forget Ford though he was a goof, very unsexy)

"In their eyes, conservatives are either dumb or evil."
I think you were right, at first...they consider him evil because he is, in fact, brilliant. In a contest of wits between Newt and any of the Democrat hopefuls, Newt would be the prohibitive favorite.

Newt is the ONLY real choice for 2008 anyway..
The others; ALL others; will divide the party even further..
Newt will not win, but he will unify the party..
Hillary is going to win.. I don't like it either but she will..
Expecting republicans to see that and prepare is asking too much..
Republicans are quite dumb..
If republicans DID prepare for the worse they could then hang democrat party objectives around their necks like a millstone.. They won't, even on FR.. They will just throw dust in the air and rend their clothing.. after Hillary is elected..

"The vast number of women have no idea why they vote for who they vote for. Polls all consistently show that they simply vote on emotion and rarely can tell any facts about the person they voted for."
The staggering level of ignorance among Women Voters with regard to National Defense and Foreign Policy Issues has been exhaustively demonstrated by any number of reputable polling organizations. This degree of ignorance should result, in well run polity, in the revocation of the franchise.
Rush Limbaugh has labeled this emotional, superficial approach to the evaluation of Presidential Candidates "the arousal factor". Sometimes this factor works in favor of Conservative candidates as many Women Voters felt "safer" with President Bush in 2004. Obviously the "arousal factor" rules out any number of potentially great Presidents because of a lack of telegenic presence and "warmness" (think of Phil Graham).
If Newt runs I will work for him because I believe him to be visionary leader who has true understanding of the problems and opportunities facing the Country. In that respect, the rest of the GOP field seem like pygmies with all of the other Candidates possessing major flaws.
If Newt does run, however, the "arousal factor" does worry me. Every time I have mentioned Newt in mixed company the issue of his first divorce comes up with the universal conclusion being that Newt was "mean" to his first wife.
