Ron Paul, the Real Republican?

Tuesday, February 20, 2007
By Radley Balko

When you read about a vote in Congress that goes something like 412-1, odds are pretty good that the sole "nay" came from Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas. He so consistently votes against widely popular bills, in fact, that the Washington Post recently gave him the moniker "Congressman 'No.'"

Paul isn't a reflexive contrarian--he doesn't oppose just to oppose. Rather, he has a core set of principles that guide him. They happen to be the same principles envisioned by the framers of the U.S. Constitution: limited government, federalism, free trade and commerce -- with a premium on peace.

When most members of Congress see a bill for the first time, they immediately judge the bill on its merits, or if you're more cynical, they determine what the political interests that support them will think of it, or how it might benefit their constituents.

For Paul, the vast majority of bills don't get that far. He first asks, "Does the Constitution authorize Congress to pass this law?" Most of the time, the answer to that question is "no." And so Paul votes accordingly.

This hasn't won him many friends in Congress, or, for that matter, his own party. It hasn't won him influential committee assignments or powerful chairmanships, either. Those are generally handed out to the party animals who vote as they're told. An incorruptible man of principle in a corrupt body almost utterly devoid of principle, Paul is often a caucus of one.

Paul recently announced his intentions to run for president in 2008. For the few of us who still care about limited government, individual rights, and a sensible foreign policy, Paul's candidacy is terrific news....Continue reading

"Democracies" who elect mass-murdering Terrorists to Majority Government Power are not worthy of our continued support.

You really don't get it, do you.

If we don't defeat the terrorists who are trying to topple that government, the end result will be ever worse with more terrorists taking over the country. If you think it's bad now, think about what would happened if we were to cut and run.

There would be a terrorist-sponsored dictator (just like Saddam) just as soon as the last American soldier leaves.

Hannity and Rush are just entertainers - Ron Paul is a Congressman. He actually has power to influence outcomes. I'm not sure what Hannity and Rush have ever actually done to be traitors - I know exactly what actions Ron Paul has actually undertaken to betray his country's armed forces.

In other words, you won't the answer the question. Hannity and Rush repeatedly opposed the Kosovo war and a majority of Republicans, yes a majority, actually voted to cut off the bombing and even threatened to cut off funds. Did the heat get to much for you? I can tell you one thing. Ron Paul wouldn't cut and run or disemble if asked a direct question like that! He holds his friends and enemies to the same standard!

He made a pledge and then, when the prospect of continuing the perks of elected office beckoned him, he went back on his pledge.

His word means nothing.

Ron Paul is the ONLY Republican candidate who wants to get our troops out of harm's way and home to their families

This is so stupid on it's own. It is the job of a Soldier or Marine to be in harm's way. It's what they do. I've been there and even got a green teeshirt. This man is an idiot with an idiotic following.

Ron Paul is the ONLY Republican candidate who wants to get our troops out of harm's way and home to their families, by ending all Military and Financial support for the criminal Islamic Terrorist regime of Iraq.

*************

Feh. As if it were possible for me to be more certain that Duncan Hunter will get my vote.

Are you sure you are not thinking of Iran??

I suggest you read up a bit on the mass murderer, Al-Hakim and his Badr Brigade (now key elements in the Iraqi government).

If you are an American, then your concern should be solely for American interests. In that regard, Israel has no oil and is a net consumer of US tax dollars. The Arabs, by contrast, have all the oil and will obligingly mop up billions of our inflation-soaked dollars in exchange.

US interests in the region are predicated on an alliance with the Arabs, 95% of whom are not terrorists, and who will gladly help us root out the 5% that are. The Assad family in Syria, for example, has killed thousands of members of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood organization.

"Islamic Terrorists who attacked our Embassies and murdered hundreds of United States Marines in cold blood"

I presume this is a reference to the Hezbollah attack on the Marine barracks.

Ironic, as Ron Paul doesn't support Israel in its fight against Hezbollah, and pressured Ronald Reagan into retreat from Lebanon, instead of killing Hezbollah members.

Anyway:

It is well-established Hezbollah was formed under the auspices of the Iranian government, was completely reliant on Iran in 1983 and assisted Iranian Ministry of Information and Security agents in carrying out the operation.

And it is to THAT same Iranian goverment Ron Paul seeeks to surrender Iraq.

So, yes, your question is based on a lie.

Or anti-semetism. One of the two.

The ADL opines Ron Paul is an anti-semite. I generally think the ADL is nutty. But maybe not here.

PAUL / TANCREDO in 2008

Now THERE's a Ticket.

Both fine ideas. I say we do both. :-)

Ron Paul is a cut and run coward. He voted against the surge to help win the war. He will never get my vote. To hell with him and I will work to defeat him if he runs for president.

"Israel has no oil and is a net consumer of US tax dollars. The Arabs, by contrast, have all the oil and will obligingly mop up billions of our inflation-soaked dollars in exchange."

So basically, we should abandon good people who just want to live and let live because they are not as strong and profitable to us as the bad people who want to kill the good people.

How French.

Hannity and Rush repeatedly opposed the Kosovo war and a majority of Republicans, yes a majority, actually voted to cut off the bombing and even threatened to cut off funds.

Oh, I see.

Can you name for me which US combat units were deployed on the ground in Kosovo?

Where exactly in Kosovo were these units stationed?

Which units of the Serbian armed forces did they do battle with?

If Hannity and Rush betrayed American units that were in harm's way in the middle of a combat zone, they should definitely be held to account.

Ron Paul wouldn't cut and run or disemble if asked a direct question like that!

LOL! Unless it was about term limits. Then you'd get a pretty convoluted story.

OrthodoxPresbyterian, watch the clip before you answer and then explain how you can say yes.

I watched the clip. It doesn't change the fact that the Ruling Government of Iraq is made up of the Terrorist Al Dawa and SCIRI Parties, who attacked our Embassy in Kuwait (one Iraqi MP is under an in absentia Death Sentence for doing so!) and mass-murdered our Marines in Beirut.

These American-murdering Terrorist Parties are the majority Government in Iraq -- and are unworthy of our continued support.

Yes, or No?
