I completely agree with this post. Those of you who find New York City too foreign can't reach out to voters in any blue urban areas -- and these areas keep growing across the country. Maybe red staters have more children, but these children go off to college, move to blue urban areas and develp bluish perspectives. Hence, if you can't even envision working or communicatine with such people, you're not going to win them over. And you're going to have a hard go winning any national offices in 2008 or beyond.

By the way, I don't know anyone in New York who thought Rudy was "weird." Many here saw him as ultra right wing, which makes the diatribes here rather amusing.

My other problem with this post is that I don't choose a candidate based on a laundry list of his positions on the issues. Maybe this makes sense when voting for the legislature, but hardly for president! Someone please tell me what executive experience Duncan Hunter has. (This is a sincere question, not a rhetorical one.)

I just plain don't believe that Rudy or any other President is going to waste time on these issues,

You don't get it, do you?

A President Giuliani might not have to spend more than five minutes on legislation regarding these issues - long enough to either sign it or veto it.

The point is, his choice of actions determines whether a renewal of the assault weapons ban or a revocation of the PBA ban requires a simple majority or a 2/3rds supermajority. THAT is why who sits in the Oval Office is a big deal for those issues.

With all due respect, I think Rudy-Rooters like yourself are getting a little nervous about an "unknown" jumping out of the bushes and making Rudy pee himself.

He will split the GOP, as is indicated on the current FR Poll. The HildaBeast as POTUS will be the death of "America, The Great Experiment". Sad, but true and you surely must realize it.

I agree with your sentiments. In many ways, a Giuliani nomination will redefine what it means to be a Republican. That redefinition would coincide with a sad defeat for conservative ideology.

"Conservative principles will have to take a back seat to competence dealing with huge international and economic issues."

Why? Are you saying that we MUST abandon conservative principles to survive?
I suspect that what you are really trying to tell me is that you want things your way, and to Hell with my principles.

In all fairness though, have you ever chucked about the picture of "Carey in the bunny suit"?

Sure I have. I've even photoshopped it.

The difference is though, it's clearly a joke.

The Anti-Rudy Oompa-Loompas (necessary to the plot but still annoying) post the Rudy pictures and either imply or outright state that he's a "cross-dresser."

And that's a lie.

Long shot or not Duncan Hunter is my only option.

That's why so many of us are going for Rudy. Because Duncan is a longshot. I don't understand why he has to be the only option. The election is 2 years away. There is time to push another candidate. I'd back someone like Santorum.

Sure, you cling to your sense of righteousness and moral superiority and just keep telling yourself you're different from those other guys over there who also claim to be enacting God's will against unwilling sinners.

I mean, you're different right? Christians believe in love, compassion, and forgiveness, right? They don't believe in judging people, right? Its the biggest load I've heard since, well, maybe Hitlary's last speech.

Good post, civil and a positive outlook, thanks.

More civility leads to less fights over one agenda issues.

Once again, you sound just like a dumbass DU poster comparing Christian conservatives to Islamists.

Could you please explain to me how calling someone a "dumbass DU poster" is a Christian value?

I think I missed that Sunday.

Hey, when did you leave CA for PA and why do you not like it? I guess that question would be better in freepmail. I lived in CA for over 40 years myself and we moved to PA for better educational opportunities for my daughter, who is deaf, closer to my stepdaughter, my husband's health and the cost of living compared to CA.

I have to say, I absolutely love PA but then I'm one who could probably live most anywhere. I'm about 3 hours from PGH and I think that is a great city. Got a daughter at Slippery Rock U now. I'm also close to DC (2.5 hours) and Philly if I should choose to go there.

I need to go look up Dynamism now :) but give it some time here; you may change your mind. There is also a PA ping list if you want to start getting into that.

Now ... your statements on illegals. Since I too came from an agricultural area of CA, I see your point. I too never had any problems with illegals except for one thing...when we bought our new home in Camarillo, some contractors had illegals pouring hardscape and doing landscape and we had a couple things missing. Their driving habits left much to be desired.

I hope you end up enjoying PA and getting to know all this beautiful state has to offer. Go to Somerset County and see the United 93 memorial now; it's worth it.

Hey, if there's a legitimate "true conservative" candidate out there with a prayer of winning the the 1) nomination and 2) the general, bring him on.

IMHO, I ain't seen him yet.

Your mileage may vary.

Guess what, bucko? I'm a lapsed Episcopalean. My pro-life views were largely influenced by an atheist liberal Jew, Nat Hentoff.

However, I can also see just how full of Shiite your comparison is of Christians to Islamists. I don't see a global network of Christian terror cells. I don't see videos of Christians beheading hostages. I don't see burkas or chadors required in Christian countries.

So your opinion is completely unsubstantiated by evidence.

I was really looking forward to reading the dirt on Kerik through your links, but really, there doesn't seem to be much there there.

He's neither the first American nor the last to make poor decisions in Iraq. At the same time, I'm sure The Nation would give only the bad side and not the good, so you'll have to find a few more articles to give me a good picture of what happened.

The other two links show absolutely nothing of substance that I can see.

If that's the best you can do ... it's not much.

(Also see my #127).

First of all, I'm lapsed Episcopalean. Second, that is exactly the kind of dumbass post I'd expect to see at DU, not FR. And third, it's telling you take more of an issue with my accurate assessment of the guy's post than the slander he is making against good Christians.

You've obviously spent some time on this. Good job!

I too am tired the whole pro/anti Rudy debate.

Instead, I'll spend my time and energy working for Duncan Hunter.

All I have to say about Rudy is - Jim Robinson doesn't support him. And neither do I.
