"It was a complete disgrace and horrible situation for our brave wounded, who deserve our best. Not only removal, but court martial this SOB."

Let's not get carried away here...WRAMC did a lot of very good work under his charge. They just didn't pay attention to this less-critical facility and the ComPost blew it in their faces and embarassed the Army.

Sounds like the 1SG did a bit more than "didn't pay attention". WRT their complaints he subsequently started calling them out for 6am formations? How many rats was that supposed to catch?

They ticked the Commander and he sicked the 1SG on them, I've seen it happen before, and when we're talking about troops who aren't casual it's fine. WRAMC's job is to treat them, not drill them.

Less-critical?

Weren't there wounded servicemen being treated there? How could that be anything less than very critical?

Walter Reed, the building, is a dump in a lousy neighborhood! The medical care is first rate but the army hasn't had the money or the political clout to come up with the funds to upgrade this facility.

From what I saw and see there (1996 to present) is they IGNORED aftercare and support functions. They are responsible for the mess. Had they run a tight ship the ComPost, Imus, and others would not have had a story. What p%%ses me off is blowhards like Fidel Murtha and John Scary like to brag about how often they're over at Walter Reed, how much they "care" for the troops, but made no effot to take a look at the whole system. As long as no cameras or reporters were around they weren't interested. They both claim to be vets so they should have known where to look. Someone should ask these sorry excuses for Americans how they managed to miss these issues if they friggin' "care" about the troops.

I wonder if you would call it a "less-critical" facility if your dad or brother who had lost their legs or a chunk of their skull had to live with rats and mold on the walls. I wonder if YOU would be "carried away". I bet you would.

The Post is usually a Commie paper, but their real job is to expose evil, and they actually did their job this time. I don't care WHO was "embarrassed"-- they SHOULD be ashamed.

Which will be closed and shuttered in 2008 as part of the BRAC move of Walter Reed to Bethesda. Is there a hidden agenda here to get the facility renovated before closing it and transferring it to the DC government? Anyone familiar with BRAC closings in Europe knows that before most of those facilities were closed they underwent supposedly "urgent" extensive infrastructure renovations on the DoD's tab a year or two before they were closed and handed back to the local governments.
