The Real Rudy
Newsweek ^ | 3/4/07 | Susannah Meadows, Mark Hosenball, Michael Isikoff, Eve Conant, Sarah Childress, Andrew Romano and Jo

Rudy Giuliani had been speaking for six minutes before anyone in the audience thought to clap, which was exactly the way he wanted it. Talking to a political crowd in North Spartanburg, S.C., last month, the former New York City mayor and 2008 presidential candidate was not there to excite but to warn; he was less interested in making political promises than he was in sketching out the perils we face. He spoke in the hushed tones of the day that marked him for history, September 11, 2001, his voice barely filling the somber setting—not a hotel ballroom or a church basement, but a firehouse, festooned with American flags.

Got to watching T.V. and didn't realize I didn't finish my post. Anyways what I was about to say was that there are many Republicans in the South that are against free trade.

Really, Virginia FOXX is against free trade? Wow, I don't know of anyone against free trade. Now lopsided fast track, unconstitutional deals like NAFTA/CAFTA/WTO status for China, I can see.

The hypocrisy and bile they've belched out over the past few weeks has been an eye opener for me.

That makes two of us! I cannot believe some of the comments I have been reading on here!

"Oh, so I take it you believe in selective incorporation in the Bill of Rights?"

No, but I'm not naive enough to think that under our system of federalism that states don't take guns issues into their own hands and I realize most states are more pro-2nd amendment than anti-2nd amendment.

I just found out that you post at LP and it was suggested that you wave to the folks over there. Guess the rules have really changed now with the LP posters coming back on FR!

Don't bother, they're all the same people as the ones here. Yes, I post where ever someone needs to put the record straight.

You must be bored.

That's a pretty funny charge coming from SOMEONE WHO IS ANTI-FREEPING ON FREE REPUBLIC ITSELF lately.

And from someone who sold her soul to push a liberal on FR. All the while trashing ACTUAL conservatives in the process.

I'll take AuntB's LP posts over your recent sorry behavior on FR any day of the week.

Hi there, db! Good to see you.

I hope we can all be pleasant about this process. I used to stay away from here during elections because of the nastiness, but now that campaigns begin before they end it's rather difficult.

I would too. Unfortunately, the Rudy Boosters feel compelled to trash conservative values as they push a liberal on FR. Ant that makes pleasantries impossible.

Ah yes. Newsweek, one of the most liberal news magazines in the country. Interesting how they are suddenly interested in publicizing the candidacy of a Republican, is it not?

Heheh......n-i-c-e zinger.

Liz...I'm sure you'll agree that FreeInWV did equally n-i-c-e at posts #42 and #48 of this thread.

I'm in favor of gun control. I'm pro-choice.

in 1999, he opposed a federal ban on late-term abortions.

Mayor Giuliani went to federal court to challenge new federal laws requiring the city to inform the federal government about illegal immigrants.

Giuliani argued for a "practical approach" to immigration and cited his efforts as Mayor of New York City to "regularize" illegal immigrants by providing them with access to city services like public education to "make their lives reasonable." Giuliani did say that "a tremendous amount of money should be put into the physical security" needed to stop the flow of illegal immigrants coming across the border, but his overall position on immigration is essentially indistinguishable from McCain's.

Giuliani is an ardent supporter of campaign finance reform as well. As he was contemplating a run for the Senate in 2000, Giuliani told Wolf Blitzer that he was a "very, very strong supporter of Campaign Finance Reform," adding that he'd been "a very strong supporter of McCain-Feingold for a long, long time now."

Social liberal; fiscal conservative...maybe.

Won't say I won't vote for him IF he is the candidate; but that doesn't mean I have to love him in the primaries.

I just don't understand why it is preferable to elect a Democrat with an (R) after their name, than a Democrat with a (D) after their name, if their positions are otherwise indistinguishable from each other.

Oh, so you believe in selective enforcement of Constitutional rights! Great preference.

I said I didn't but if you don't think states won't enact their own gun laws, you're naive. I didn't say I agreed with states doing so, just that I realize they do and will. You have a reading comprehension problem.

Noticed the anti-Rudy crowd and the Hunter crowd are already here. Are the Hunter threads so void of posts that have to have Rudy threads to post on. Guess that is what happens when a candidate is an * in polling numbers.

Who can find a Hunter post? What can you say about an asterisk?. But note, they are pouncing in droves.. a sure sign Rudy is running away with it.
