If it weren't for Ann Coulter, there would be nobody in the Republican party with the balls to stand up to the enemy.

Bush wont pardon Libby, he'll probably send Tony Snowe out to trash him like those two board agents.

Pardoning Libby would be a courageous move on Bush's part. So not to be expected.

So Berger gets his wrist slapped, and Libby does major time? How can this be happening?

The Bush Justice Department has been probably the biggest disappointment during this entire Administration. I liked John Ashcroft, but his recusing himself from this and allowing Comey to name a special council to pursue this witch-hunt turned into show trial... it is just amazing. After Janet Reno, I thought: who what a change this is going to be, but between Ashcroft, Harriet Meiers, Alberto Gonzalez, and W's weak-kneed treatment of Berger, the stupid 9-11 Commission. You're right: no courage; no principles.

It would look incredibly improper.

You're probably right, but this is a severe problem. Significant decisions are now typically made on the basis of how they would look, rather than on the basis of fundamental validity. This was a stalinist show trial from start to finish, perpetrated by a politically corrupt malfeasant and everyone knows it.

And if a pardon is a just act, which it would be here, then there is no reason to delay. The president waiting to pardon someone until he is walking out the door at the end of his term has always struck me as political cowardice.

"t would look incredibly improper. He should at least wait until January of 2009."

If it's the right thing to do, then it should be done ASAP without apology.

Anyone else notice that the media and the Democratic Party considers lying under oath to be a much more serious problem now than it was just a few years ago?

And its really so much less serious.

The executive branch needs to stay out of this until it runs its course.

Good thing Gerald Ford didn't think the way you do. Or Ronald Reagan.

He won't get a new trial, that is certain. And what an appeal would accomplish, I don't know. No judge will overthrow this verdict even though it is manifestly unjust. There is no reason to delay. Better to act promptly, as soon as the initial dust has settled and the landscape is clear, to send a message to the miscreants who have colluded in this travesty.

"If Scooter gets pardoned, Hillary gets elected."

Hillary gets elected no matter what. In spite of my tagline I'll do what I can to defeat her but the election is hers to lose.

Hope he is, he should be. He managed to ignore real sources to go after the people he wanted to 'get'!

I don't want the Executive Branch screwing around with matters in the courts. Why you would is beyond me.

Remember, Hillary could easily abuse that power as much as anyone else.

Libby has an active case be that a request for a new trial or an appeal. If the case is overturned he is no longer a convicted felon.
