Dick Cheney has been diagnosed with a blood clot in his left leg, leading to speculation he will be forced to resign as U.S. Vice-President.

The 66-year-old has a history of major health problems, including four heart attacks, and has undergone quadruple-bypass surgery.

He is a driving force in both the war in Iraq and the 'war on terror' and his resignation would be a huge loss to George Bush.

The vice-president is the leader of Washington's neo-conservatives and is believed to be a dominant influence on Mr Bush's military and foreign policies.

I have begun my research and so far I have found out that 19 State legislatures have passed anti-nepotism laws. I am still looking for federal law. I will continue searching and also follow this thread for replies.

I do remember that when Bush was running for Prez in 2000, before he named Cheney as his running mate, Sean Hannity was promoting Jeb Bush to be W's running mate.

Being that it pertains to the President's Cabinet, I'm sure that it's some obscure law that only afew know about.

"... makes the govt more vulnerable ..."

Nah .. it says .. "majority vote". But .. don't worry - the dems will make it all as tiresome as possible - as usual.

The law was passed soon after JFK was assassinated; if that's any help.

Sean doesn't always get things right and I don't remember Sean saying that Jeb should be "W"'s VEEP.

I postulated this scenario about a month ago. I think this one below was my first time suggesting it.

of all the things president bush has done to unravel the gop, the worst is to abdicate his responsibility for succession
***Why doesn't he ask Cheney to resign for health reasons? He certainly has had enough heart attacks. His next choice for VP would be the heir apparent.

I don't get your post. Replacing a VP requires a majority vote in both houses.

The president, however, did ask Thompson to guide John Roberts through the Senate confirmation process.

What's to get! You're correct!

But .. Cheney hasn't resigned yet so I'm not going to worry about it right now.

The obvious choice to me is......Lynne Cheney....
I agree that if Fred Thompson hadn't gotten so fed up with Washington he'd have made a formidable candidate...would love to see him debate Hillary... a "presidential" countenance vs the Shrillary...wouldn't be close.
