Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco will formally announce this evening that she will NOT seek re-election, numerous political sources tell WAFB 9NEWS. Blanco was elected Governor of Louisiana in November 2003, becoming the first woman to ever hold the office.

As recently as last week, Blanco said she would be a candidate. "My plan is to continue running," Blanco told reporters last Wednesday

If Breaux jumps in, Bobby can forget it. Hopefully Breaux is too content making a lot of money.

I don't know if this hurts Jindal or not. It all depends if Sen Breaux gets in. Sen Breaux is still popular and said he wasnt going to run if Blanco ran. But if he doesn't I don't see the other Dems having much of a shot

Breaux wants to stay in DC, making money, and not working hard..LA is going to take a lot of work..no way Breaux wants this headache..I wonder if Mary might decide she'd rather be a governor than a senator...I think she could run for the state house without giving up her senate seat..a la Corzine..there could be the vile smell of a deal here...if she wins, she then gets to name her replacement..

So is she going to be Hillary's running mate? Both are politicians whose resumes show no accomplishments.

Bad news, for that reason, I like Jindall but can he beat Breaux? I have my doubts. I heard last week on the radio that he was waiting to see what Blanco would do before deciding whether to run or not.

I think Bobby can beat Breaux. The problem is I am not sure how much star power Breaux still has. The thing I am concerned about is that Breaux is so popular in Acadian and that error is needed for aa Republican to win

The rednecks up in North Louisiana aren't going to vote for Jindal.

Also, they would be a good match because Hillary's southern drawl goes over like a ton of bricks.

Yeah it is goodnews for the State that she is not running. However, if Breaux gets in it will not be as easy for the Republicans to get the Gov Mansion. Also the GOP needs to pick this up because he would be Governor while the Census and Reapportionemnt is going on

That's unfortunately true.

Jindal didn't get the numbers he needed in that area the last time he ran for Governor.

North Louisiana will vote for him I think. Only reason Blanco won up their last time was because she campaigned nonstop for 8 years as Lt Gov up there.

Some might not, but some regret voting against him the last time, given the disaster that Blanco has wrought.

I think they should check to see what her wealth was when she took office and compare it to after Katrina. Might prove to be interesting.
