Hagel: Some see impeachment as option

By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer 22 minutes ago

With his go-it-alone approach on Iraq, President Bush is flouting Congress and the public, so angering lawmakers that some consider impeachment an option over his war policy, a senator from Bush's own party said Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Senate's No. 2 Republican leader harshly criticized House Democrats for setting an "artificial date" for withdrawing troops from Iraq and said he believes Republicans have enough votes to prevent passage of a similar bill in the Senate.

"We need to put that kind of decision in the hands of our commanders who are there on the ground with the men and women," said Sen. Trent Lott (news, bio, voting record), R-Miss. "For Congress to impose an artificial date of any kind is totally irresponsible."

GOP Sen. Chuck Hagel (news, bio, voting record) of Nebraska, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a frequent critic of the war, stopped short of calling for Bush's impeachment. But he made clear that some lawmakers viewed that as an option should Bush choose to push ahead despite public sentiment against the war.

"Any president who says, I don't care, or I will not respond to what the people of this country are saying about Iraq or anything else, or I don't care what the Congress does, I am going to proceed — if a president really believes that, then there are — what I was pointing out, there are ways to deal with that," said Hagel, who is considering a 2008 presidential run.

What a monumental gas bag. I'm not even sure if the majority of the people in the US want an unconditional withdrawal from Iraq. Those who do are probably the same idiots who dial 911 to complain that their taco's cold.

One just needs to ask the Russians on how to handle a hostage situation. Especially when the Iranians took over their embassy in late 78 early 79. The hostages were released immediately.

With his go-it-alone approach on Iraq,...

Delusional people should not be in a place of power.

Hell, Hagel can't even position himself as doing what's best for his political party.

He needs to run for POTUS, that way the people of Nebraska will see first hand what a delusional character he is via forced learning of him by POTUS seeking ad's.

"I hope the good people of Nebraska are taking note."

I also hope that those that contribute to the GOP take note as well.

Those poor fools keep calling/mailing me asking for money that'll go to support the likes of Hagel.

one expects this kind of talk from moonbats and Hagel. Over the years I have developed a visceral disdain for this man. I believe McCain's loss to Bush pushed this guy over the edge. He thought he would be vice president. I hope Nebraska republicans run someone against him in the next election. Did you see his press conference to announce he doesn't know what he'll run for? I think the man has become deranged and is in need of a couch.

Hagel - a product of the current Republican party.

No, he is the product of the electorate of Nebraska.

I can only hope you're correct. However, the Democrats have been working to undermine the president for a long time vice via Iran. As part of their template, they've argued that Iran isn't a threat and Bush is using disinformation and duplicity to start another neo-Con war. This, in effect, gives Iran a blank check from the Democrats to pursue their proxy wars in Iraq, Lebanon, and Israel. The fact that Iran threatens Israel with nuclear destruction is the Democrats inconvenient truth, and probably in their minds a figment of Bush and the neo-Cons imagination. And despite the dangers and menace Iran truly represents the Democrats and the MSM have so poisoned the general public with cynicism that many people just don't see any threats that need addressing. But on another note, certain things you allude to do fit the time line and if it becomes necessary to destroy Iran's military infrastructure....it could be done soon.

The RNC must defeat Hagel in his next primary. Plain and simple. All support should have been cut off from him long ago.

He is a fool, a pompous as$ who can't stop reliving his own failures....and projecting those on others...

That the MSM constantly put him on TV as an "R" to attack this WOT and WH is as intellectually empty as is Hagel himself...

And here are the Iranians proving the Democrats wrong and -- no doubt by accident -- dredging up memories of the hapless Jimmy Carter.

It's useful to have enemies like this.

I feel the same way about Hagel; he's beyond despicable in his unprincipled opportunism. He's the enemies best friend who brazenly aids Iran. Could he be compromised in some other way? I don't know. He's like the type of people that used to front for Stalin and the ones who were naive about Hitler. It's beyond belief that a normal Republican could betray his party and country during a time of war like this.

No, he is the product of the electorate of Nebraska.

Try to tell that to any number of conservatives who have been stomped by the national GOP in the primaries. You don't get elected to the Senate without the party behind you.

Arlen Specter is another example. The leaderhip campaigns for him every election.

I also hope that those that contribute to the GOP take note as well.

Alas, the RNC doesn't place Senators into office.

All they can do is promote disdain for the undesirables.

The people of Nebraska have the say as to who their Senators are.

The options may be worse than what they have presently.

Hagel is delusional if he thinks he can win the GOP nomination with that kind of moonbat talk.

The Iranians. But now that you mention it, it could also fit the Democrats. The timing of Bush's enemies has always been off.

I think you would find it hard to uncover a Republican in Nebraska, most of the people in Nebraska are tied to the Agriculture base of the state, ergo they are firmly planted on the Government teat, and know where their largess comes from. Feed Lot and Corn before the good of the nation/
