The Gou'auld put them there as landing ports for mother ships.
LOL you call that a car; I call it a death trap.
Every child should have one
It could be, you know. Our current house in Vermont was first built in 1825. Then when the owner married a rich wife, she refused to move in until he enlarged it. So he jacked it up and build a new first story underneath the original house.
Then about 20 years ago, a couple of guys bought the place as a restaurant, jacked up the entire house, and build a full basement underneath it.
You'd need some very big jacks to build a pyramid that way, but you never can tell. Those Egyptians performed marvels of construction.
I thought they built them from top to bottom. /sarcasm
It should be obvious to all that the pyramids were of course built from the top down.

this guy is on to something.
Be very careful you may have insulted the Illuminate.
Houdin teamed up with a French company.... which put 14 engineers for 2 years on the project.
Only in France !
The concept of counter weights sounds pretty clever also, it would make the huge blocks almost weightless. I would like to see how they reset the counter weight.
I do not see any thing to make fun of here, it is an interesting new approach.
"
With a counterweight you have to haul the line (against the counterweight that weighs as much as the stone block which would be at the bottom) back down (and that weight up) after you release the stone higher up. There is no free lunch -- just as much force is still required to lift each block. Now if the counterbalance was used only to swing stones sideways then there would be little lifting.
The idea of having the ramp inside is fine until you figure how cramped it might be for all the men required to do the pulling on a 2 ton block (even if it was only the last quarter of the structure (the outer 30-45 feet). The tunnel would then have to be filled from the top down and you would think that would be fairly obvious at the ends if this inside ramp actually was done (at the top and at the hole 1/3 of the way up from the dirt ramp... especially since the outer casing is long gone)
Wacky as it sounds I think that is precisely what the Frenchman is trying to say. Somehow "inside out" replaced "top down" in translation. When you think about it "inside out" is the only way it could have been built that is only stating the obvious. However, building the structure as a spiraling ramp all the way to the peak and then placing the outside stonework from the top down would leave the ramp in place inside and just beneath the facing stonework. Why else would they be using ground penetrating radar and such to look beneath the surface of the pyramid? They are looking for the ramp!
I don't see how they could have done it that way but that's what the article implies to me.

Tsk, tsk!!
Grants must be connected to Global Warming Climate Change.
So, your application must connect the building of the Great Pyramid of Khufu from the ground up with Global Cooling Global Warming Climate Change!
Go rework the danged thing.
That's absolutely fascinating! Wish I could see a pic of it. Do all the stories match in terms of architecture? Is it possible to tell from the outside, or is it a cohesive whole?
Thanks for the link.
I cant wait to see how Wally tops off his Stonehenge.
Why, everyone already knows that they were building it as a big air conditioner, to sit inside in the shadow and not to be fried in direct sun. That's what my last grant was for - you are behind the curve.
You have one Jacked Up house! ;-P
It came out as a classic colonial farmhouse, with a wing on one end that used to be the summer kitchen and probably a couple of attached sheds. Very nice looking house, and it looks as if it was designed to be the way it ended up. Also a nice porch for settin' on.
