The Mormon Advantage
Townhall.com ^ | 4/5/2007 | Maggie Gallagher

Mitt Romney is riding high this week after his victory in "the first primary," which consists of raising cold, hard cash to compete: more than $20 million in the first quarter, $5 million more than his closest contender, Rudy "Lay off my wife!" Giuliani. John McCain came in a lackluster third with $12.5 million.

Romney's campaign benefited from two distinct donor networks, according to media accounts: Wall Street and Mormons. GOP front-runner Rudy, struggling with one of those weird media freak shows erupting around his wife, Judith (her alleged participation in future Cabinet meetings and former puppy killings), must be a little envious on both counts.

Why is it that all the Dem candidates are still married to their first spouse, while among the current crop of leading GOP contenders, the only guy with just one wife is the Mormon?

Truth is, I don't think this is just an accident. There's something about Mormons the rest of us ought to pay attention to: Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints do much better than almost any other faith group at sustaining a marriage culture -- and they do this while participating fully and successfully in modern life. Utah is above the national average in both household income and the proportion of adults who are college graduates.

I respect you and your right to believe as you wish.

I am not required to respect your religion theologically or as to it’s alleged truthfulness, and I don’t.

Deal with it!

How can you get the same body back when all the atoms and molecules have been recycled over and over again throughout the ages?

Ridiculous!

BTW the way if I never found the COJCOLDS I would have become Catholic!

I never felt comfortable with the Protestant religion.

Sounds to me like you were out shopping for a religion.

I find that is a common trait among those who get sucked into cults.

If a person wants hard enough to believe in “something”, that person will convince him or herself of something to believe in.

Praying and fasting helps in that respect because it lowers a persons resistance and can even induce hallucination.

25a Luke
1 8 But there shall not an hair of your head perish.

Alma 40:
23 The soul shall be restored to the body, and the body to the soul; yea, and every limb and joint shall be restored to its body; yea, even a hair of the head shall not be lost; but all things shall be restored to their proper and perfect frame.

Eph. 2:
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them

Thanks Liberty, for the links and info! There is much truth to be gleaned from truly learning history. May we never repeat it!

I also thank you for the positive discussion. I hope we can all keep this thread moving in the right direction, the healthy exchange of ideas and provoking thought.

I have to stop you at comparing resurrection to reincarnation though. The two are completely different.

The Christian (specifically LDS) belief that all mankind will be restored to their “proper frame” is because of the gift of Christ. All mankind will stand before God to be judged in this renewed and perfected physical form.

Reincarnation is a near eastern belief that we are “re-born” over and over again in different forms.

Cheers, thanks again for the links!

1- No when I was a child I was forced into protestant I was always drawn to the Catholic faith, but than that is before I knew of the fullness of the gospel and the Plan of Salvation!

Wow I did not know that gee Jesus must have been hallucinting all during his 40 days of prayer and fasting...

>Delphi,
>simply add them up. How many individual Gods do you have in mormonism?

God the Father. Um That’s (carry the zero) 1 (one).

>Please give us a number of each “personage”
(as you like to express it) who is considered by
Mormonism to be a God.

Well, God the Father Chose Jesus Christ to be our savior, so he can be called God, but that’s because he is part of the Godhead (biblical term you know) And there is the Holy Ghost, he’s part of the Godhead too, the God head is of one heart, might mind and strength holding all things in common thus they are one, so one. But this includes the first one, so we reach a total of 1 (one).

>Please also count every mormon who has been
>exalted to god status and now rules over his
>own planet with his wife who is a godess.

Well, the day of judgement has not come yet, so no one has been exalted so that’s add a zero to the one. Oh and who cares if someone else is exalted to become a God? They will not be MY God, see my post about worshipping Money, Cars and Sports teams.

>I think if you are forthright, you will come up with
>a number greater than the Christian number of 1.

Actually, I get 1. (grin) but then again, you were trying to be tricky by listing god more than once, so I answered with descriptions of what I was counting, I hope you do not mind.

>What number do you come up with?

Now, in the interest of full disclosure, Mormons only worship God, which is the Godhead which Jesus himself defined as “One God”

John 17: 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:

Who exactly is Jesus talking to when he prays? When God speaks from heaven, is Jesus practicing ventriloquism? When prophets speak of seeing Jesus on the right hand of God (like Joseph smith, Stephen, Paul, etc) Is jesus really sitting or standing on his own right hand? (What balderdash!) But that is what we are left depicting in stained glass windows of Stephen’s vision.

If Jesus Counts himself, God the Father and the Holy Ghost and comes up with one, so do I.

Now is our definition of the Godhead is not the Orthodox Trinity, if that is what you are getting at then Fine, we do not hold the Dogma (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/Dogma) of the trinity because it is the creation of a Pagan emperor imposing his will upon a weak earthy structure to shore up his empire. If Jesus himself never used the word Trinity, and never professed a belief in it, so is he not a Christian? I am content to be of the same faith as the Son of God.

Go with God, but just Go (sorry, couldn’t resist the humor Grin)

All except the blood, you say.

Why not the blood. I like my blood. Why can’t God just give us leak-proof veins.

Is there food in Mormon heaven? What happens when you eat it. Does it just disappear, or are there toilets in Mormon heaven.

Oh no, maybe the stuff from the Celestial toilets goes to next level down! I sure hope the plumbing in Heaven doesn’t leak.

Come to think of food in Mormon heaven, I sure hope it’s better than the little bits of stale bread you serve with your sacrament!

On no! Bread and water in heaven! I think I’d rather go to Valhalla at least they have good beer there.

LOL Tell me another fairytale Resty!

It’s English, no one is asking you to honor anything. Proper nouns are supposed to be capitalized (http://englishplus.com/grammar/00000045.htm)

If you want to look uneducated, that is of course your choice.

Yep, I look forward to my monthly hallucination. A bit of peyote helps, too.

...that’s not against the Word of Wisdom, is it?
