Thread 4

Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD

Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanity’s dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.

J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18

The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.

Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

Here's where I will post news and info about the Long War. Let me know if you're interested.

Sunni And Shiia Join Up Against Al Qaeda In Iraq
Posted by AJStrata on May 23rd, 2007
Hat tip to reader DaleInAtlanta for bringing this amazing news to our attention. Sunni and Shiia leaders have signed an agreement to fight al Qaeda and support the Iraq government:

A delegation of Sahwa al-Anbar, (Anbar Awakening) the tribal alliance in the restive Sunni province of Al Anbar, has made an unprecedented visit to Sadr City, the Baghdad stronghold of radical Shiite imam Moqtada al-Sadr, according to pan Arab daily al-Sharq al-Awsat. “We have taken this step to place national interest ahead of any differences” said the head of the US-endorsed Sunni alliance Hamid al-Hayas. “This is an effort to bring closer together the Sunni and Shiite Iraqi points of view. We want to deliver a message to all the political groups to put aside their differences and act for the common good” he said.

At the end of the meeting the two sides signs a joint document in which they vowed to fight the terrorism of al-Qaeda. The group has become increasingly isolated within the Sunni insurgency because of its indiscriminate targeting of civilians.

I predicted al Qaeda’s desparate and violent acts against Muslims would be their undoing - and now it is coming to pass. The so called civil war is now the war we always wanted - the Arab/Muslim street is rising up against al Qaeda. Not America or the new Iraqi government. This is why the Surrendercrats not only were dead wrong (and probably capitulated on the funding once they were briefed on the rapidly changing situation in Iraq) but why they will also pay a heavy price for NOT supporting our troops and seeing them through to success. It is amazing to see this happening, and it is a great moment in our efforts to redirect the ME towards a peaceful, democratic future.

Fox is reporting that the Lebanese military has entered the northern part of what looks like a city but they keep calling a “camp.” They have encountered no resistance as of now.

It is not a full out invastion but is possible preparation for an incursion or for just blowing the whole thing to smithereens (that last bit is mine).

I was taking an anime break...good for the soul to be watching fake war rather than real, where the heros don’t have to put up with stupid politicians, and they win...and spring cleaning.

And hubby’s coming home tomorrow, so I am happy! He’d been on a fire in Georgia for 3 weeks. He needs to come home for at least a week for r and r...

From my Navair Beep Beep Muthafletcher File:

“..........Nine US Military ships, including two aircraft carriers, passed through the Straights of Hormuz on Wednesday, the largest number of US Military vessels to enter the Gulf since 2003, the US Military said.
It said the ships were entering the area for training. (Reuters)”

Saw an AP report that id’d the NIMITZ and STENNIS, plus the BOXER and the Jarheads riding around on their little sea cruise.

.....I’m just sittin’ and grinnin’. Popcorn will be standing by.

I was getting up early to wait for hubby to call me from Georgia, and turned on the TV (which I really never watch --I've watched more tv the last 3 weeks than in the last 5 years) and got hooked on Inu Yasha, which runs here at 5:30 and 6 am. And a little bit on Naruto which runs in the evening before the stupid cartoons run on CN. But then I discovered Youtube had a wide assortment of the episodes...and I found story outlines...and manga summaries (this one followed the manga very closely) and copies of the Manga in graphic novel form.... This kept me company while hubby was out...(dōmo arigatō, Inu Yasha) and gave me something to do while working on the house and yard. The news situation, being dreadful, is getting too painful for even me. Check out this news source... http://newsdaily.com/ KAC Papa scooped his daughter on finding this one out. Weird moment of the day: watching an episode of Inu Yasha this morning in Japanese with French subtitles...managed to make sense of the French, too, except sometimes the frames went by too fast for me to read the French and make sense of it...

After that moment, I decided I was weird enough and had to come back into the here and now, getting too old for serious fandom silliness my hubby just wouldn’t quite understand.

(reminiscing fondly of the days when I had 3 Dr. Who scarves, and a nearly complete collection of episode novelizations, all imported and costing twice the price of domestic books at that time...)

Once again. Shouldn’t be any hidden html in this one.

When I was in college, even though I was at first a history major, and then an English Lit grad student, I used to hang out with the engineers and physics majors a lot...which shows you my mind is a little wierd to start with.

I used to be the type who went to cons regularly...wearing funny clothes, and able to hold forth in great detail on my areas of interest...knew a few SF writers as well...

But it’s been nearly 20 years since my last con. I moved and lost touch with my circle who used to go to sf cons with me.
