knowing the 7:15 shooter is still on the loose - you start cancelling classes, you start turning away students who drive to school and send them away. its also obvious that while there may have been security guards at the location of the first shooting, what about everywhere else on the campus? you bring all these people in, let classes start, and no security is present to stop some guy from chaining doors from the inside.

they would have been better off flushing everyone out of the buildings onto the lawns, the one place you don’t want to be is inside a building, yet that’s where they guided everyone to.

Do these reporters have the slightest clue how stupid, petty, and obnoxious their second guessing looks

This horrific massacre deserves a competent investigation at the outset. We can't have incompetent idiots botching this. These students deserve justice and an honest and open investigation.

You get to tell me what my words mean, what I am thinking? That sounds like wild speculation to me. You have to accept the good with the bad and there is a lot of both here, including links to widely divergent sources that nobody would have time to hunt down on their own.

If a campus is armed, I think there is more likelihood of shootings erupting

Concealed carry is permitted on campus at all Utah public schools. I'm sure you've read all the news stories about... oh, wait... there haven't been shootings erupting. To bad the rest of the elite and enlightened elsewhere can't be as backwards as we are here.

I’ve been to Tech (a lot of friends of mine went there, and one still works there). It’s HUGE. It’s bigger than my hometown by a factor of twenty. It’s bigger than the town of Blacksburg itself, or at least more populous. How do you “lock down” what amounts to a small city?

Exactly! And if you do lock down...what do you do with all the people already on campus who don't live in a dorm and aren't in class. There would be hundreds, maybe thousands of students just 'milling around'.

I would agree with that after hearing some of the answers coming from these guys.

The officials sound like they don't have a clue and are in full "cover ass" mode.....sigh

They said they were not looking for what they believe to be a possible 2nd shooter. I typed it because that was an absurd statement! They are going to interview witnesses FIRST. Risky scheme...

They come across as clueless on how things really work. They keep asking the same questions over and over.

I guess we can look forward to passing more gun laws to stop psychopaths from breaking them and killing large numbers of people.

Agreed.

Though it sounds like there’s some gaps here in terms of the investigation...and what’s being released...

The rush to find someone to blame OTHER THAN THE SHOOTER is pretty sickening. In typical fashion- the media is insisting this investigation be completed in time for their next broadcast.

If the two lovers in question are both dead, what is there to investigate? So we can give some family members the gory details of their loved one’s death?

Thanks for taking the time to post. My prayers are with you, your friends, and the families of those at VT.

Like you said, everyone starts spouting on how people screwed up. The fact is, in most cases, nothing can be done because these are random lunatics. It is like every sporting event, everyone would have made the great play or call to win the game.

This country needs to get over the blame game and finger pointing at others and point where it belongs, the individuals (criminals, murders, terrorists) that did it. Learn from the mistakes, if there is obvious negligence take action and move on. Unfortunately politics and agendas over ride common sense.

Again, thank you for taking the time to post.

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage. I withdraw my observation on your perspicacity, which is officially None of My Business.

However, I think you’ve observed several points that lead me to expect that, eventually, reasonable people will recognize this as a jihadist terrorist attack.

Yes indeed. It is apparent now that they should have taken action at 7:30 when they were not sure where the shooter was. Stupid imo. They admit they had kids killed and a shooter loose but decided not to let anyone know this until 2 hours later. If I was a parent then I would be holding these guys responsible...as well as the shooter. At least we now know the facts as far as the first shooting.

1. The police and college knew that they had dead people - shot - 7:30 a.m.
2. They knew the shooter was on the loose.
3. They did nothing further until 9:30 a.m.

Case closed on that subject. They should have taken action but didn’t. There excuse is they thought it was an isolated incident. Ridiculous. Who cares if it was isolated...you still had a shooter on the loose. Someone should be fired.

REALLY! At 7:16am the MANHUNT for the shooter should have begun, for crying out loud! Why is this campus being treated differently than any other town?

They may not be allowed to carry guns campus, but I’d bet there will be a lot of future CCW permit holders among the students who witnessed this tragedy.

the press is doing the right thing. the natural inclination of the power structure is to hide the truth, push off responsibility.
