Just a couple more examples. First is Hebrew phonetic, second is arab phonetic.
Funny thing is, I don’t think there is any arab Isaac, since they can’t acknowledge he ever existed as that would mean Yishmael was not the sole heir to Abraham

Here is an interesting intersection of “Ismail” and “Ax” in the Muslim story of Ibrahim (Abraham), who in the Muslim version of the story is a convert from paganism to Islam. In this story, Ibrahim was going to sacrfice his son, Ismail (instead of Isaac) but a sheep is sent down from “Heaven” and Ismail is spared. As in the Bible, Ismail’s mother is Hagar and she is sent away. When Ismail is grown and his mother has died, he meets Ibrahim again. Learns that Ibrahim has converted to Islam and that Ibrahim had taken an ax and attacked and destroyed all the pagan gods at a Temple except one after converting to Islam. He hung the ax around the single standing pagan idol. Ismail also converts to Islam.

I’m not sure why we’re writing off the Islamic angle since the words were Ismail Ax (exactly referenced in Islamic writings) and not Ishmael Axe. If you were making a literary statement to the world surrounding this event that you thought was important enough to etch onto your body, wouldn’t you care to spell the reference correctly?
I’m also not sure where this “game tag” angle is coming from either. His roommates made no reference to his being a gamer or there even being a game console in his room.

Actually, there are reports that he spent a lot of time alone in his room playing a specific game but I don’t know the name. And the first thing my college age son said when he saw the name is that it was a gamer tag.
Apparently there are websites for these games and you take a name and add Ax on the end. And these are games so if he was heading out to kill, he might have wanted to keep the persona on.
Funny no criticism of those calling for more gun control, much less than 24 hours after the event. The same day in fact.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the Virginia Tech University community, and to the families of the victims of what appears to be one of the worst mass shootings in American history.
"Details are still forthcoming about what motivated the shooter in this case to act, and how he was able to arm himself. It is well known, however, how easy it is for an individual to get powerful weapons in our country.
"Eight years ago this week, the young people in Littleton, Colorado suffered a horrible attack at Columbine High School, and almost exactly six months ago, five young people were killed at an Amish schoolhouse in Pennsylvania. Since these killings, we've done nothing as a country to end gun violence in our schools and communities. If anything, we've made it easier to access powerful weapons.
"We have now seen another horrible tragedy that will never be forgotten. It is long overdue for us to take some common-sense actions to prevent tragedies like this from continuing to occur."
'It speaks for itself. The vultures began circling over the bodies while they were still warm, and while others were still being treated in hospitals, some in critical condition.
He was probably gone more often than he was here. I just figured he had classes.Doesn't sound like "a lot of time alone in his room." They also said that he spent "a lot of his time" on the computer "downloading music and stuff" (not gaming). But what do they know? They only live there.
And his gamer persona "just happened to be" the name of an high Islamic Prophet and spelled using the Islamic spelling?

I’m just saying the two guys who actually lived with the guy are probably better sources as to what he was doing in the room than your son and whomever is cited in the mysterious other source.
The National Rifle Association joins the entire country in expressing our deepest condolences to the families of Virginia Tech University and everyone else affected by this horrible tragedy.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families. We will not have further comment until all the facts are known.

The Virgina Citizens Defense League did post a couple of pretty hot statements.
The VA Affiliate of the NRA, the Virgina Shooting Sports Association also issued a statement similar to that of the NRA, although with a "whiff" of "agenda in it":

Personally I think they should, as a "first step" allow all the members, otherwise eligible to posses a firearm, of the VaTech Corps of Cadets who are also ROTC cadets (not all are), to go armed on Campus.
Secondly, the guy is a senior with a English major. I am quite sure he know what a metaphor is, and I think that is the purpose of the so called tattoo.>P>it could be a Islamic metaphor, but it does not work as well as the "axe that changed the world" or whatever they say the metaphor means.
