Killer's Note: 'You Caused Me to Do This'
ABC News ^ | 4/17/07

Posted on 04/17/2007 9:51:27 AM PDT by areafiftyone

April 17, 2007 — Cho Seung-Hui, the 23-year-old student who killed 32 people and then himself yesterday, left a long and "disturbing" note in his dorm room at Virginia Tech, say law enforcement sources.

Sources have now described the note, which runs several pages, as beginning in the present tense and then shifting to the past tense. It contains rhetoric explaining Cho's actions and says, "You caused me to do this," the sources told ABC News.

Sources say Cho killed two people in a dorm room, returned to his own dorm room where he re-armed and left the note, then went to a classroom building on the other side of campus. There, he killed 30 more people in four classrooms before shooting himself in the head.

Cho, born in South Korea, was a legal resident alien of the United States. He was a senior at Virginia Tech, majoring in English.

Sources tell ABC News Cho bought his first gun, a Glock 9 millimeter handgun, on March 13; they say he bought his second weapon, a .22 caliber pistol, within the last week. The serial numbers on both guns had been filed off, they said.

Authorities found the receipt for the 9 millimeter handgun in his backpack. They say it also contained two knives and additional ammunition for the two guns.

Legal permanent resident aliens may purchase firearms in the state of Virginia. A resident alien must, however, provide additional identification to prove he or she is a resident of the state.

Sections of chain similar to those used to lock the main doors at Norris Hall, the site of the second shooting that left 31 dead, were also found inside a Virginia Tech dormitory, sources confirmed to ABC News.

Most of the rest is rehashing. Not much more here on the note.

But notice that the “Ismail Ax” detail is nowhere to be seen in the ABC story.

That seems to be illogical...

The receipt could have been stuffed into the bottom of the backpack when he bought the weapon. Forgetting it was in there is reasonable.

I think he cracked. When he did the first two shootings (his girlfriend and the advisor) I think he just went mad and went off.

Ibrahim confronts his people and rejects their idols

He left his father after he lost hope to convert him to the right path, and directed his efforts towards the people of the town, but they rejected his call and threatened him. By Allah, he said, I shall plot a plan to destroy their idols. He knew that a big celebration was coming soon, where everybody would leave town for a big feast on the riverbank. After making sure that nobody was left in town, Ibrahim went towards the temple armed with an ax. Statues of all shapes and sizes were sitting there adorned with decorations. Plates of food were offered to them, but the food was untouched. “Well, why don’t you eat? The food is getting cold.” He said to the statues, joking; then with his ax he destroyed all the statues except one, the biggest of them. He hung the ax around its neck and left.

I wouldn’t be looking for much logic here. The filing off of the serial numbers tells me that he thought of killing the ex with the intent of getting away with it. Between the filling off of the numbers and this spree, things obviously changed.

a .22 caliber pistol,

This guy had planned this out quite well, and his intent was as many kills as possible. The .22 pistol has but two uses. Target shooting, and the traditional last shot to the head to perform a Coups De Gras. (SP)

Correct. It makes no sense that someone who legally purchased weapons and planned on dying while using them would file down the serial numbers.

Someone only does that if they want to sell them illegally to a third party and mask their provenance.

Filing them down could only create an added risk that he would be prevented from carrying out his evil plan - it wouldn't help him at all.

Why would he go to the trouble of filing/grinding off the serial numbers (if he's the one who did it), then leave the receipt lying around? Then again, if the guy was a whackjob, who the heck knows. Sigh.
