One teacher even suggested today he was given A grades because he was so "intimidating and staff wanted to keep him happy".

Nikki Giovanni, who teaches poetry, said she threatened to resign if Cho was not taken out of her class. She said: "I think he liked the idea he was a scary guy. Some people like that. That is how they define themselves. Kids write about murder and suicide all the time. But there was something that made us all pay attention closely.

"Students absolutely would not come into class. They said, 'He is taking photographs of us. We don't know what he is doing. It is very strange'."

What on EARTH?? What is wrong with these teachers that they would be so SCARED of a student they would give him A grades?? This infuriates me! This guy OBVIOUSLY had some "issues", and this is how they dealt with it--pandering to him? Patronizing him? REWARDING him?

I cannot believe I heard this correctly. It seems the only ones that had a clue were his former roommates who called the police because he threatened suicide and even THAT ball got dropped by the very people who should have picked it up and ran with it! UGH.

I am just sick.

He was incoherent and illiterate. Regardless of what his major was.

Read “Richard McBeef”. The guy had no business ever stepping foot in a university. Once we’re done sympathizing with Virginia Tech, the taxpayers of that state need to take a good, hard look at the school’s admission policies. The fact that he was a student there was the first travesty.

Throwing the hate term around for people who are trying to make sense of this piece of filth is wrong. This is a free forum and everyone has a right to their opinion. Throwing out the xenophobe card is something libs do. They are big into PCisms and thoughtcops.

Please explain exactly why he uses the term Ishmael???

Pray for W and Va Tech

Who is the second picture of?

In one of Cho's very badly written plays, a character hits another character in the head, several times, with a hammer.

I have kids younger than high school age too.

When I was a college student and grad student, this type of behavior wasn’t common (one did not behave the way Cho did to profs without being thrown out of the class and eventually out of the school). At least not at the Universities I attended.

But, students slanting their writings, be it tests or term papers or essays, in order to not get a lesser grade because they didn’t side with the prof’s viewpoint on a issue, was common. I learned it early on in college.

As for what’s been happening in high school classrooms today, I know because I was high school teacher and some of my students complained all the time about certain teachers and how if one didn’t agree with a teacher’s viewpoint, the paper was graded differently or they received a lesser grade, whatever. And two of my high school age kids have been through this already. One had to write an essay on homosexuality in a book the class was reading. She didn’t see any homosexuality, and neither did I when I read it in high school or when I refreshed my memory by reading it again a month ago. But, the teacher assigned her the homosexual aspect and she had to find passages and research that supported the homosexual inferences. It was really hard to find since there wasn’t many. But it was the side she was assigned to support and write about - which is why I told her that sometimes she’s going to have to slant her writings to what the teacher wants. Obviously, the teacher thought there was a homosexual side. So, we searched, found two articles on it, and that’s what she wrote about even though it wasn’t what she “got” from the book.

>I’ve read many posts that have been informative and interesting and articles I would have never known about if I hadn’t read them here.<

This site is an amazing repository of information, and, during times of national catastrophe, it’s absolutely the main site I check first (partially for the sense of community).

Welcome. We have our curmudgeons like other corners of the net of course. Just don’t take them personally.

I know because I know what's in the Bible. Have you never read it?

I know about what's in the Koran because that verses about Ismail were posted to FR, over and over and over and over again yesterday and today.

There seem to be so many loony posters. You must see a RoP link with everything even remotely unpleasant that goes on with your life... get a grip.

Okay, perhaps that's a possibility.

Cho was nuts and trying to get into the head of a madman is close to impossible.

A student at VT was talking about one of the women that Cho stalked. He said that Cho had sent her creepy typed messages to her phone, most of which were puzzles meant to be decoded, but which nobody could figure out.

You said — “Not insane? I wonder. These people are demonically oppressed. I would call that “not” sane, at the least.”

Hey, I almost missed your post. There are way too many here.... :-)

Well, in terms of that “insane” — I mean in a clinical sense. I’m not injecting the Bible’s view of it here, and besides, I don’t see that the Bible refers to these things as mental aberrations, but rather the result of sin and the rejection of God. So, I’m not going there, in terms of the “insane” part.

If we were to look at it from a clinical psychological and psychiatric appraoch, one also has to take into account one’s “worldview” and background in assessing this. Are they able to function “normally” and adequately in their culture and their “norms”. And mind you, the Islamic “norm” is way different than Western culture (not being a “relativist” here, just analytical).

Let me go to the Christian, first and show you what I mean. A Christian believes in the Bible and the resurrection of Christ and life from the dead and a Heaven that all Christians will go to. This is their worldview. So, when a psychiatrist is examining a Christian, he has to take into account that firmly held and believed “worldview” — or else — he could possibly say that they are *delusional* and/or *insane* for believing such things as dead people come alive and there is such a thing as heaven “out there somewhere”. I mean — for a person of another worldview — this might be considered “delusional” and “insane”. In fact, that’s what the Soviets did to the Christians over there, during those Cold War days. They claimed that these Christians were delusional and insane and they were able to “lock them up” under those pretenses.

The point being is that is the Christian’s worldview and when the pyschiatrist takes that into account, then he can make an assessment of whether they are delusional or not and whether they can function properly within their group and worldview and society at large.

It’s the same with the Muslims, over there in their society. They have a different worldview, The psychiatrist is going to take a *different look* and use a different yardstick in determining their state of being — as to whether they are delusional or incapable of functioning in society (i.e., *their* society, not ours). That is going to involve a *different set of criteria* and thus what *we* (as “normal” people over here in this country) would consider absolutely “crazy” — it can be considered “normal” and “functional” in their society.

Of course the psychiatrists are using relativism in making those determinations. But,that’s our present culture in the world today. And in that sense — they are not insane — clinically speaking.

HOWEVER, when we go to the Word of God, we see a different story. We see sin and evil and righteousness and so on... We see salvation and the fighting of evil against good and against God. In light of that, these Jihadists are not *delusional* and are not *insane* — but they are (in light of the Word of God) sinful and evil. They have a religion which is of Satan (*literally* so). This is not psychological language or relativism. This is the absolute and unalterable and perfect Word of God speaking. It’s speaking on a completelly different level. That’s what I’m talking about.

So, I say, they are evil and despicable, but they are not delusional or insane. I hope you get what I mean.

Regards,
Star Traveler

We do have a statement from authorities that there was no suicide note in the room, just a few pages of free-form rant.

Thanks. I saw that characterized earlier as a "suicide note" which is evidently not the case.

I aways find that, when I'm going to commit mass murder and justify it with a rant, it's important to have a backup rant just in case the mail to NBC gets lost. His computer will no doubt have the files he sent to NBC.

That's my own policy as well. Of course, the fact that the authorities have Cho's dorm papers and computer files doesn't necessarily mean we get to see them.

talked about it...

There are many here that are still convinced that he was muslim. Anything happens and people jump on the RoP bandwagon.

There were also those who were convinced he was a secret agent sent by the Chinese Govt.

Well, I’ll admit it’s an unconventional way of thinking about these things, a sort of “reverse approach” to looking at it. But, it is precise, correct and right. There’s not an error in the thinking there. It’s simply correct, even if people don’t think about it in those terms or in that manner. It pays, sometimes, to take another “viewpoint” to the same problem (that you’ve looked at before) to get a new insight into it. This is what I think this represents.

.

And then you asked — “Please explain exactly why he uses the term Ishmael???”

Well, wouldn’t we all like to know. All we’re doing so far is speculating on it. And I’ve admitted that my ideas (along with everyone else’s) is purely speculation.

But — overall — the greater majority of evidence (even *overwhelming* amount) indicates simply a very disturbed mind which is also evil at the same time.

Star Traveler
