I don’t, the message I see is it’s America’s fault. This is way past the garden variety mass murderer. The attack was well planned, likely choreographed by the prior weeks bomb threats to test response of the police, and he left the message of what he wanted to be seen as after he was done.
This is much more than mass murder ... He was sending America a political message, just like other terrorists do, no way to deny it.

Well, I pointed out carefully, in another post yesterday that there is a big difference between what we see with certified nutjobs here in the U.S. and dedicated jihadis who have a religion and a philosophy that they follow with absolute dedication. There is a world of difference.
If you confuse the two, then you make the job of fighting the jihadis that much more difficult and you will not understand them, in order to fight them and beat them. They are not *nutjobs* but rather are following a dedicated religious and governmental philosophy, the same way those who were Nazis did and who followed the Emperor in Japan and those who towed the Communist line in Russia.
I suppose that people might called Nazis and Emperor worshipers and Communists and Jihadis all nutjobs — but that does not gain any understanding (in order to *know your enemy*) and is a great diservice.

I didn’t see it in a thread - it was the last quote from the madman in the first package NBC News played tonight. They broke up the videos. It was the last one in the first section, before they moved on to other news.

Because people have offered various, mostly far-fetched hypotheses as to what the significance of the reference to “Ismail/Ishmael” might be (which designation was indisputably of importance to this a-hole), your logical conclusion from that is that one should therefore exclude out of hand, even though we know relatively little about this guy, any possibility that he was influenced by islamism? How does that make any sense?

Did anybody notice that in some of his video where he is really ranting and raving angry, he several times, shows hints of smiles.
I think this guy was just plain bonkers nuts and thought it was fun to act out a real life play (since his creative writing was horrendously poor in quality).
Any allusions of his to class, religion, islamic symbolism like possibly Ismail - is just incoherent ramblings. He had no mission, no cause, no real fight, he was likely just mad and wanted to kill himself and take others with him just for mad kicks.
