Vermont Senate Passes Bush, Cheney Impeachment Resolution
Fox News ^ | April 20, 2007

MONTPELIER, Vt. — Vermont senators adopted a nonbinding resolution Friday seeking the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. With no debate, the Senate voted 16-9 in favor of the resolution, the ayes all coming from Democrats. Three Democrats and six Republicans voted against it. "I think it's going to have a tremendous political effect, a tremendous political effect on public discourse about what to do about this president," said impeachment supporter James Leas, a vocal advocate of withdrawing from Iraq and of impeaching Bush and Cheney. Lawmakers early in their session became the first to demand for the immediate withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. But activists have been frustrated in their demands that the Legislature adopt another resolution calling for impeachment. Speaker Gaye Symington, D-Jericho, has ensured that a House impeachment resolution remains bottled up in the Judiciary Committee. She says an impeachment resolution would be partisan and divisive and that it would distract Washington from efforts to get the United States out of Iraq, which she says is more important. Senate President Pro Tem Peter Shumlin, D-Windham, has said he supports impeachment, but was hamstrung because Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie, a Republican who presides over the Senate, would likely bury a Senate resolution in committee. But Dubie was absent on Friday and, with Shumlin in charge, the resolution was immediately taken up as one of the Senate's first items of business and pushed through. Many senators were surprised it was being considered; there was no effort to derail it, though. "I think it's fantastic," Leas said. "This is a great achievement and Peter Shumlin deserved a lot of credit for listening to the people, listening to his conscience and taking action."

Vermont should secede, we don’t need ‘em, and maybe Canada might take em

No. Vermont is a beautiful state with a tremendous role in our nation's history. How about we get rid of the kooks that are temporarily in charge and keep this part piece of America?

You are blessed to live there.

I am indeed. I grew-up in Ca, but moved here in '68. I thank God every night for showing me Texas.

My sister in law went with her husband to Vermont. They yelled at her for asking for yellow cheese.

Why would she pass up a chance for genuine Vermont cheddar? I don't think it was political, just regional pride. If she wanted really good yellow cheese she should have gone to Tillamook, Oregon.

If my state reps wasted my time and money doing something like this, even if I hated whoever the president was, I would demand their resignations.

They can’t be bothered to protect children from molesters but they have plenty of time for this nonsense.

I pity any normal people left in that picturesque hellhole.

Vermont has become a reservation for old hippies.

Sort of a World Heritage Site for the grey ponytail set.

Tell em you won’t be visiting—deprive them of tourist dollars and sales/room tax money. As much as I like the scenery
up there, tell ‘em you’ll boycott Vermont

Well if a state legislature believes it has the authority to affect federal government, then we Freepers have just as much authority!

Fellow Freepers, I hereby call for the impeachment of the following:

- Nancy Pelosi for acts of treason.
- Harry Reid for acts of treason and significant conflicts of interest.
- The entire democrat portion of the Vermont State Senate for misuse of authority.

Our “non-binding” resolution carries equal weight as the Vermont senate resolution.

All in favor say “aye”, all opposed say “nay”

You ask “on what grounds Vermont Senate
wants to impeach Bush”?!!!
#1 Bush stole the election in 2000,
#2 he bought the election in 2004,
#3 MOST IMPORTANTLY...I have been sitting
on my duff waiting to get my shot at heading
up as many committees as possible to get that
sucker for years!

Now, I have the power to do some real damage
to this so-called Conservative bunch: I’m
Chairman of the Judiciary Committee (yeah,
you’re going to see my face quite a bit more,
too!); and, I’m also on the AGRICULTURE,
NUTRITION, & FORESTRY Committee:
Subcommittee on Revitalization, Conservation,
Forestry and Credit
Subcommittee on Nutrition and Food Assistance, Sustainable and Organic Agriculture,
and General Legislation (Chairman)
Subcommittee on Production, Income Protection and Price Support

Appropriations Committee

Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science
Subcommittee on Defense
Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations (Chairman)
Subcommittee on Interior
Subcommittee on Transportation and Housing and Urban Development
Subcommittee on Homeland Security

You get the picture? I’m a big gun here
in D.C. WHY would my home state of Vermont
try to hinder my progress? The folks back
home KNOW I’ll be sending them a good bit
of Pork when I get my say on those money
items! Meanwhile, they’re doing some
nice backwoods “Sh-t-shovelin’” for me!

Patrick Leahy, your Democrat of Note.

They’re so cute when they play Pretend Congress, aren’t they? What’s next Pretend Forced Collectivization? Oh wait, it’s Vermont, they’re already halfway there.

“I am amazed at the lack of intellectual honesty among some of these people. They want to impeach Bush and Cheney because of lying that got us into this war?????”

I would not be the least bit surprised if that was the intention of the Dumbocrats all along. According to their twisted logic Bus and Cheney lied about WMD even though scores of Dummies in the Senate stated that Iraq had them. This is supposed to be “pay back” for impeaching the the Sinkmaster Clinton.

She didn’t pass it up. She is not even what I would call a conservative. She was telling me about her trip and commented on how rude they were when she asked about yellow cheese. I guess its a touchy subject up there.

You have it exactly right. The left has echoed the things (rightfully) said and done to Clinton. First they called Bush a liar...then they wanted to impeach him. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Two big differences however. This time its the left making those claims, and the claims are absurd. Its just a childish game of payback on the part of the left.
