You can’t be a viable party and win major elections if you drive out all but the social conservatives.

And that is what they intend to do , especially with Rudy at the helm. He himself said he wants to take the party back to the Rockefeller Republicans.

I have read where many liberals on FR say if they can get rid of us, they'll pick up moderate democrats.

I keep saying “social conservatives.” That’s inaccurate and unfair. There are plenty reasonable social conservatives.

I should be saying, “all-or-nothing conservatives.”

...I would have Alan Keyes in the White House right now

I voted for him during the primary back in 2000. I was so bummed he didn't get the nod.

“Fine. You’ll have a party with far less than 50% of the vote. Try winning elections that way.”

1. It’s not just about % of potential voters. It’s about turnout. Turnout depends on a motivated base. In the GOP, that motivated base tends to be in the social conservative / anti abortion/ pro 2nd amendment groups. They are the ones on the ground doing the turnout work. The squishy middle is just that- squishy. They tend to be followers, not doers.

2. Polls show that the majority of americans hold conservative values. The problem is when the GOP loses it’s way and becomes DNC lite. The line gets blurred and voters can either stay home or the swing voters can be swayed by conservative talk from democrats or caught up in a “throw the bums out” movement.

Did it ever occur to you that most by far just don’t want to be pregnant and that abortion is the only way out they have today?

And you still have the nerve to say that you aren't in favor of abortion?!

But I disagree that she must be loving the idea of a Rudy nomination -- Rudy couldn't win the FR vote, but he is capable of winning the national vote and defeating Hillary.

A northeastern lib will beat a northeastern lib? How's that gonna work?

Fred Thompson has lymphoma, and that could keep him from running.

Giuliani has a history of cancer. That should keep him from running. Face it, your logic doesn't support your candidate.

He hired 6 $100K a year bodyguards to drive his mistress around.

At taxpayer expense, if my memory serves me correctly.

Newt is unelectable (talk about an unsavory private life!).

Again using your logic Giuliani is out.

And up to the post number here, there has not been one single word in this thread about national security, world terror threat. The site is less and less in touch with reality, because those issues are near the top for voters.

I have an explanation for you that you may not have thought of. The reason there's so little discussion of national security in the Rudy threads is because (with the exception of the traitorous Ron Paul) there is not one GOP candidate--NOT ONE--who is going to lay down for the Islamofascists.

The idea Rudy supporters have that he's the only answer on national security is every bit as divorced from reality as claiming he's the only white male in the GOP race.

The Rudy Rooters love to bring up Reagan’s “11th Commandment” while conveniently ignoring the fact that Reagan is the only Republican in modern times to challenge a sitting Republican president for the GOP nomination. Reagan spent all of 1975 and half of 1976 attacking Ford and the other liberal/moderate Republicans. The Rudy Rooters need to grow up and realize that Rudy’s liberal RECORD (they despise the fact that in the internet age all of this is so easily documented) is fair game.

FR fights against the liberals/Democrats in all of these areas and always will. Now if liberalism infiltrates into the Republican party and Republicans start promoting all this socialist garbage, do you think that I or FR will suddenly stop fighting against it? Do you think I'm going to bow down and accept abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, global warming, illegal alien lawbreakers, gun control, asset forfeiture, socialism, tyranny, totalitarianism, etc, etc, etc, just so some fancy New York liberal lawyer can become president from the Republican party?

Do you really expect me to do that?

Two words; HELL NO! ;)

Conservatives are the ones who vote for a reason, and get fired up about issues. The squishy middle won't stand for anything, thats why they are easy to lead.

2. Polls show that the majority of americans hold conservative values.

That is why the "Republican Platform" is the best winning tool we can use.

If Rudy ever got elected, we'd lose all credibilty. We have already lost alot because of the RINOS in office.

The problem is when the GOP loses it’s way and becomes DNC lite. The line gets blurred and voters can either stay home or the swing voters can be swayed by conservative talk from democrats or caught up in a “throw the bums out” movement.

And some good conservatives got caught in the wave, but it wasn't because of their conservative priniples. People are sick of squishy politicians.

OK its coming up to #5000 and I am going to take my turn and give a much needed speech. I love you all and I love JimRob and Sheila and FR and I love America and what has happened here for the last 30 hours is representative of the current illness that is running through the conservative heart of America. I wish it wasnt, but it is...

It seems that some here are more interested in ripping the hearts out of other FReepers and not just giving their opinion in a debate.

Comments like “I’m a Christian and you’re (whatever ugly name the Bible tells you not to call the other FReeper)Hmmm that’s called judging. Don’t mention you’re a Christian... I ignored your posts... you have no crediblity with me...

The nitpicking for hundreds of posts over abortion was disgusting..(I wont go into that...other to say if you think abortion is OK in certain but rare instances then you are NOT pro-life)

Rudi is not my personal choice and I wont vote for him under any circumstance. If a vote for him is necessary to keep the White House in Republican hands, then we dont need the White House this go round...

All you FReepers who have been screaming what great Christians you all are should be praying and believing God for a Godly man to vote for and put in office... Where’s your faith? Those of you who remember back that far will recall we had a grassroots commitment to prayer all over the country in 1980. We prayed Ronald Reagan into office with pray Rallies in DC and around the country at the same time.

I dont know if Fred will run It seems like he may... He loves America and I believe he’d do a good job as POTUS... We need a strong man like Reagan was.. Someone who will put the interests of America and Americans first...Our country is facing dire and certain peril...

Folks we dont have time to be at each others throats...

Rant off

I’m not “dinging” him. I like Fred. I’d vote for him. But he has cancer NOW, and that could make a grueling campaign unfeasable. Remember, Rudy left his Senate campaign because of his cancer and the demands that the treatment put on him.

"Had you read what I wrote"

I read what you wrote and it sure sounded like a liberal pro baby murder "choice" posting to me. If I and several others are "confused" by what you attempted to communicate clearly then I suggest you communicate such again. It is your job to communicate your ideas clearly -not mine...
