The Republican Party is sometimes referred to as the big tent party.... That allows a fair diversity of opinion....If “true conservatives” want to go it alone,ok ...they have tried it before ...it doesnt go very far

Oh, okay. Thanks.

Yes, we are a big tent party and we used to be known as a party that accepted independent thought, although I can see that concept is relatively foreign here.

woofie, I think the GOP over-reached on the big tent thing and lost sight of the vision thing.

Yes, some diversity of opinion can be a healthy thing, but the Republican moderates in the Senate got in bed with the Dim liberals and their combined votes beat down the conservatives too many times.

That’s how we wound up with the 2005 Highway Bill; pork, pork and more pork; a Senate which voted down drilling in ANWR at every opportunity; and finally a traitorous crook from Nevada as Senate majority leader.

Instead of providing a big tent for everyone, Reagan convinced Democrats amd independents to bring their own unbrellas and join him on the road to that shining city on a hill.
