C'mon. Fred Thompson's mindset his entire career in the Senate was to "reform" the political process to the benefit of incumbent politicians, and to surround himself with moderates and Democrats in a meaningless pursuit of "bipartisanship."

Thompson has long been known as a McCainiac, and was a driving force behind McCain-Feingold (which at one time bore his name). Even up to the passage of campaign finance reform, Thompson advocated spending limits on Senate campaigns.

It's not a mindset that erases overnight, particularly in one's twilight years.

"his entire career in the Senate was to "reform" the political process to the benefit of incumbent politicians, and to surround himself with moderates and Democrats"

That's a bunch of mule fritters, and you know it. The mere fact that he doesn't believe in politics as a life long career, and that he left it, is proof enough that he did not "reform", as you put it, the process to the benefit of incumbents.

Next, are you going to start claiming that Fred is Pro-choice, like you have on other threads?
Or are you going to start in on me how FRed said, which is bs, that McCain is the greatest leader ever. I saw that one too. :)
Gelato, you're obviously a fan, and good at, debating. You're just wrong on a few things you have debated for.
This is another one of them. You're making stuff up that your mind created to give you a high from the debate.
Good night, FRiend.

:O)

Your post just said it all. But, afterall, Fred Thompson is an actor and though there are MANY more conservatives that would be better candidates and you could understand the hysteria, I see another George Allen in the making. Fred Thompson will be an acceptable conservative on most issues, but will turn out to be a major disappointment as candidate and leader, if he actually was so sure a thing for election. More of the same. Duncan Hunter remains exactly the kind of man this country needs and has the spine that Fred and the others lack. But his name doesn’t stand out because he’s not an actor! If Fred gets the nomination I don’t want to see Hunter on the ticket. Thompson can run on his own and go down on his own. And the derisiveness toward Hunter’s candidacy is enough that they should not have the audacity to want him to pick up for Thompson’s faults. Find another VP. Same old, same old GOP.
