NOW chapter endorses Giuliani - (Yikes) [Feb 24, 2000]

At a moment when Hillary Clinton's New York senatorial campaign is scrambling to bolster her sagging support among women, here comes more bad news.

At least one chapter of the National Organization for Women is endorsing Rudy Giuliani over Mrs. Clinton in the highly publicized race, while charges of impropriety stemming from the first lady's involvement in the Chinagate fundraising scandal are also surfacing.

"As Dulles NOW activists watched Mrs. Clinton's lifeless and seemingly perfunctory televised entry into the race, it reminded us of the role she played in the countless scandals tied to a discredited administration," stated the Virginia NOW chapter's president, Marie-Jose Ragab. "The politics of personal destruction, the character assassinations, the intimidation and political persecutions unleashed from the White House against those who exercised constitutional rights, and the unprecedented degrading and ridiculing of women have left a trail of lies and deceit inseparable from her campaign," said Ragab.

The NOW chapter's decision to support Giuliani struck another blow at Mrs. Clinton's campaign for the New York seat being vacated by retiring Democrat Sen. Patrick Moynihan. Two recent polls of women voters in New York show the first lady trailing the popular mayor of New York City.

Political analysts agree that Mrs. Clinton must carry a majority of the women's vote in New York to win any election. However, one reason cited by Ragab for the NOW endorsement of Giuliani over Hillary Clinton was his emphasis on law enforcement.

"The decision was based on his long record of accomplishments, the years of dedicated public service, the envied improvements and quality of life he brought to his city and the curbing of violence against women in the streets and in the home," stated Ragab.

The NOW endorsement also comes at a time when Mrs. Clinton is under renewed criticism for her role in the 1996 Chinagate campaign finance scandal.

"I want to warn New York," stated Johnny Chung, a convicted Chinagate figure who worked closely with Mrs. Clinton.

"Hillary is warm and makes minorities feel like she is working for them. I felt that way too. I was wrong -- very wrong. My wife told me and my kids warned me. They knew I was wrong," said Chung.

On March 9, 1995, Chung handed a check made to Hillary Clinton's chief of staff Maggie Williams after a photographic opportunity with the first lady. Two days later, on March 11, 1995, Chung and several Chinese business representatives attended President Clinton's weekly radio address.

Chung later pled guilty to illegal campaign violations, including passing money to the 1996 Clinton campaign that came directly from the People's Liberation Army.

"I gave fifty thousand dollars to Mrs. Clinton's chief of staff," Chung said in an exclusive WorldNetDaily interview. "Money for political access to the White House. Money for business access. They knew what the money was for. They knew it was not legal."

"I was the giver of illegal money. I pled guilty," Chung said firmly. "The receiver, however, remains free. That too is wrong."

Chung stated that he was "not surprised" by the NOW endorsement of Giuliani over Mrs. Clinton.

"If a politician did not take the responsibility for what happened in 1996, then how can we possibly trust her with our vote today?" asked Chung.

So what? Would it matter if it was 7 years old if he was endorsed by the KKK?

You have yet to explain to me why things about Rudy’s public life from his years as a public figure don’t matter.

That does it. I support anyone that is running against someone that is endorsed by NOW.

I will not support Rudy in the primaries, but will vote straight party like always come Nov.

He makes a great Mayor of New York, but I see his ever-changing positions as pandering as opposed to evolving.

We need a real conservative, not just a fiscal conservative. Rudy is a social liberal.

If he makes it as the Republican candidate, I'll vote for him.

I believe the Dulles NAG was one of those chapters that did not kneel down and open their mouths during the Lewinski scandal.

Wow, there are NOW FReepers? Who’da thunk?

I can’t believe any NOW chapter would support anyone other than their patron saint, Hillary. Very odd....

I usually call them the Oprah freepers. But NOW works too. They support candidates who are in favor of gun control, gay rights, abortion, global warming regulations, and illegal aliens.

< So what? Would it matter if it was 7 years old if he was endorsed by the KKK?>
Yeah, it matters a great deal. First, NOW’s endorsement says much more about Hillary than it does Rudi. Secondly, you are clearly implying that this sanction somehow says that Rudi is more liberal than Hillary, which is folly at the highest level. Thirdly, if you are attempting to claim that someone today can be judged by what they were years ago, remember this: Ronald Reagan was a Democrat at one time and you used to piss your pants.

Wow, talk about an endorsement that’s the kiss of death with the GOP base...Rudy would have been better off getting endorsed by CAIR.

Because the implication of your original post would lead many to assume that this endorsement just occurred. This is deceptive, whether intentional or not.

No, when it comes to being a feminist, Rudy is slightly to the right of Hillary, just slightly. The evidence is that a chapter of NOW would even consider endorsing him, that NARAL loves him and vise versa. Don’t recall if Hillary had kind words for Margaret Sanger and Bella Abzug, but Rudy has. And Rudy had his ex wife (then not ex) extolling his feminist virtues in a campaign ad for mayor.

The only people none of this matters too are liberals, or the Oprah republicans.
