Romney Addresses '07 Regent Graduates [some skeptical having a Mormon address Christian audience]

CBNNews.com - Virginia Beach, Va - Before the celebrating came the turning of tassels and accepting this charge:

"I want you to strive for greatness through service," said CBN founder Pat Robertson.

The largest class in Regent's history sang a hymn bowed their heads in prayer.

"Father," prayed Pastor Jack Hayford. "We come with hearts of gratitude for each of these graduates."

{snip}

Some say they were initially skeptical about having a Mormon address a Christian audience.

"There were some people who were alarmed," said Regent graduate Cassy McLauchlin. "I was surprised because I just didn't think he was the speaker we would have here, but they let us know he wasn't coming to speak on any theological issues but he was coming to address us at graduation."

Your opinion. But not valid in my book. Once again, i am sure your “interpretation” of the Bible could be questioned by me and may others. Why not just believe your way and allow me to believe my way?

We will just have to agree to disagree. We will all know the truth one day won’t we?

What do you mean "allow you"? No one's forcing you to not believe your way.

Just pointing out your error in believing men can be gods. You, of course, can do what you want.

You make a good point. I am not referring to those who just question but to those who name call and spout out and out lies. I am not going to name names but I have recieved some very, very vile and contemptible private posts on here. I am a conservative and come on here to talk with conservatives. Every time Romney comes up it is the same old stuff. I onlu opened my mouth today because someone mistated our beliefs and I was correcting it. I thought I was honestly helping. I have no desire to talk religion on here but will talk politics.

The Lord never changed his church those who opposed revised his ordiance after the Priesthood was withdrawn from the earth they reverted back to the lesser law as in the time of Moses.

first of all... the Priesthood of Melchesideck was not what Christ came to re-establish. And as for the law... Jesus came to fulfill it not destroy it. The only "higher law" is God's law. it's unfortunate you've not been taught true Christianity and how it fits in the Old Testement.

The LDS church didn't restore anything... they added to the scriptures with their own false prophets and wrote the Book of Mormon (trully blasphemous).

This is your choice. It is unfortunate that you have been drawn away by false prophets and YOU are fulfilly the scriptures relating to the last days... men will be fooled by false prophets.

and find them to be very patriotic Americans

Quite true. But to suggest that their beliefs fall within the pale of orthodox Christianity is just not accurate.

However, I have many Mormon friends and I find them to be strong, kind and friendly. People of integrity, faith and love. They are patroitic and (usually) Conservative.

I trust my Mormon friends and enjoy their friendship.

I live in Idaho... and this is like baby Utah as far as numbers of Mormons go.

no doubt in my mind I would vote for a Mormon over a liberal or former President's wife anytime. I have voted for them in our own state legislature. I just don't agree with the way they profess to be Christians.

You MUST be born-again.

Well, I am not going to go into the out and out lies that appear on here. I do not have the desire to go through all of that again. I have tried before and got nowhere. As for your revelation that not all Mormons practice what they preach...this surprises you? There are good and bad people in all organizations. I thought that too obvious to point out. But even you must admit that there is a certain animosity that comes up with the topic f the LDS church on here. It is just frustrating because I enjoy the articles and debate on here but am finding it harder and harder to keep coming here. If I so chose I could make the religion of every candidate (those that have one anyway) an issue but think that would be pointless.

who opposed revised his ordiance after the Priesthood was withdrawn from the earth they reverted back to the lesser law as in the time of Moses.

What does this mean exactly?

****

When you have more knowledge in the scriptures and than study both books you will see a beautiful connection and how only have one side of the coin hinters you from having a the fullness of gosple.

As Christian don’t you think how much richer the life would be for those that are Jewish if they also accepted the New Testament it is the same with the Book of Mormon.

There are covenants that very few christians are aware of or have dismissed thinking they are fulfilled and they are not!

Will they have a planet over which they will reign, as God?

Hey, Orson Scott Card is one of my favorite novelists, and I am constantly chagrined that God had to raise up and prosper an LDS to honor His Son Jesus in a hostile venue.

However, I cannot recognize the LDS organization as a valid Christian denomination, and part of the unbroken continuity of God’s work on earth. They themselves assert themselves to be something new, a fresh testament, appearing in 1843 after Jesus turned His back upon His bride and stomped out for 15, 16, or 17 centuries.

You didn't answer my question about what the following means...this is what you said earlier:

who opposed revised his ordiance after the Priesthood was withdrawn from the earth they reverted back to the lesser law as in the time of Moses

What's the meaning of this?

That is certainly your right to chose and it is my right to think otherwise and question the validity of others.

A cowboy, new to Wyoming from Texas, walks into a bar and orders three mugs of Bud. He sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders three more.

The bartender approaches and tells the cowboy, “You know, a mug goes flat after I draw it. It would taste better if you bought one at a time.”

The cowboy replies, “Well, you see, I have two brothers. One is in Arizona, the other is in Colorado. When we all left our home in Texas, we promised that we’d drink this way to remember the days when we drank together, so I’m drinking one beer for each of my brothers and one for myself.”

The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there.

The cowboy becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way.
He orders three mugs and drinks them in turn.

One day, he comes in and only orders two mugs. All the regulars take notice and fall silent. When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, “I don’t want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss.”

The cowboy looks quite puzzled for a moment, then a light dawns in his eyes and he laughs.

“Oh, no, everybody’s just fine,” he explains, “it’s just that my wife and I joined the Mormon Church and I had to quit drinking.”

“Hasn’t affected my brothers though.”
