It's a stupid myth believed by stupid people.......The belief that Giuliani is the only candidate who can beat Hillary.......... ranks right up there with belief in Bigfoot.

.........along with crop circles, and peace in the Middle East.......

Maybe you've missed recent events here on Free Republic where the owner declared Free Republic's mission to "swiftboat" Rudy Giuliani's campaign.

We might never get the chance at the rate Rudy is swiftboating himself.

Have you been reading Darwin Central?

Nope. Matter of fact, I don't believe I've ever gone there. What is it?

This violates Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment: “Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.”

For all we know, you could be shilling for MoveOn.org or George Soros.

You can talk up other Republicans without tearing one down... leave that for the drive-by media.

"Last I heard the election is still well over a year from now."

It is, but if we don't do something NOW, we won't have a choice who we get to vote FOR.

This violates Ronald Reagan’s 11th Commandment: “Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.”

Which is a falsehood, given that Reagan ran and almost defeated the GOP incumbent in 1976.

I dont know if Rudy is the only GOP candidate that can win, but he does have name recognition, polling numbers and the favorability to win. But, that’s not why I support him. Many FReepers are violently opposed to Giuliani for reasons I understand. But freepers alone do not make up the entire primary voting base.

I’d have to see how Thompson stumps once he gets in to see what I really think of him as a candidate. I really only know and think of him as an actor. I could see Romney gaining some traction. I think McCain will flame out.

The best way to counter that line is for the GOP to nominate someone who doesn't so closely resemble Democrats in so many ways

While a divided convention is possible resulting in the GOP "nominating" a candidate, it's been decades since that's happened. The overwhelming probability is that the Republican nominee will be determined through the primary process. By voters. Who show up to vote. IMO the constant "my way or I'm staying home" drone is counterproductive. As the the "get the *ell out of here Rudy supporters" attitude. Not a good way to change minds, thus votes.

If you arent going to offer economic conservatives anything, then what makes you think economic conservatives and indepedents who have leaned Republican in the past will vote Republican this time. The social issues appeal only to a part of the base (unless you have the gays screwing themselves over by pushing gay marriage like they did a few years ago. If these are your issues, not much to motivate your average American to vote Republican, especially in an anti Republican climate.

You don't need a divided convention - 1992 is a good example of what happens when the GOP standard bearer drifts too far leftward.

Rudy would be a hard lurch to port. Straight into oncoming Democrats.

It’s quite the funny place really. You see, these people have gathered, for some reason or another...anyway I don’t know the history of the place, but more to the point, I saw it mentioned on the long thread I first posted on.

So I went to visit to see what all the hype was and to my sincere amuzement, I found my own name :) People that are self-described geniuses and scientists of the highest order had finally figured out who I was.

All the brain power was put to the test. I was called “a troll”, “master troll”, “genious”, “dumb newbie”, “master troll of all master trolls”, “insane”, “almost not human”, and last but not least “Mojo” (LMAO)!!!!!

That’s right. The riddle was solved. The brightest minds had figured out that I was someone who quite handedly stabbed the owner of this site in the back. I baited someone last night with Mojo’s name and she scurried away like a rat. Guess she thought I was too (lol). I know exactly who Mojo / Steve Gilbert is and I must say when I got up this morning I definately did not see him in the mirror. Sorry, though I’ve seen some Mojo’s name mentioned with lots of grand things, I regret to inform you that I am indeed not Steve Gilbert.

Maybe you could examine Fred's NTU ratings. His ACU ratings. And his long history of calling for federalism (i.e., smaller federal government) and fiscal restraint.

****Rudy is the only candidate who can beat the Clinton****

That is patently absurd.

Rudy can't even beat Clinton in his home state. He's losing and has been since say one to the carpetbagger (-12%, -10% and -8%).

And that's before he stepped in that pile of poop and repeatedly flipflopped and vacillated on every issue the last couple weeks. In short, he is t-o-a-s-t.

BTW, rudybot, how'd you survive the purge??? And in case you didn't get the memo, FR's bandwidth is NOT to be used to promote that liberal, pro baby-killing, gun-grabbing, cross dressing mutt. JimRob put his foot down - FR is about conservatism - period, end, stop.

No personal offense meant, but if you're pimping for Rudy, you're in the wrong place now 'old-timer' (1998). The Rooty group hug is over at that other site now.

What's mysterious about it? Rudy's at the far left of the GOP. Those on the right side of the party are appalled at the possibility of him winning the nomination and facilitationg wholesale remodeling of the GOP platform.

I think there is a difference between honest debates between, and about, all of the Republican candidates, and an organized “swift-boating” of one of them. I’ve done some studying lately and found that some here, including the owner of this forum, had attacked George W. Bush in a similar manner when he was first running for President.
