New Hampshire Free Staters gather for liberty bash

Posted on 05/15/2007 1:42:29 PM PDT by Dada Orwell

I thought this might be of interest to you FReepers. Any of you planning on coming? What are your thoughts on the Free State Project?

----

The Free Staters are having their 4th annual Porcupine Festival in New Hampshire next month, and you're invited to drop by. Free Staters are folks who move, or plan to move, to NH for more freedom.

What: Porcupine Festival When: June 18 - 24, 2007 Where: Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford, NH Who: Hundreds of hardcore liberty activists who are considering moving to NH or already live here Why: Socialize, learn about NH, join our freedom fight for a week How: Registration Details are at http://freestateproject.org/festival/

You've probably never seen more gun-toters in one place! Turnout averages around 300 a year. It's a chance to experience maximum freedom and glimpse New Hampshire's future.

Attendees will be able to choose from events in several categories:

* Bus Tours: organized trips to various parts of NH * Outdoors: planned hikes and events exploring the environment of NH * Activism: engage in pro-liberty activism in NH * Entertainment: bands, open mike, movies, dancing * Training: learn the basic skills needed to be an effective organizer and/or activist * Speakers: hear and question early movers, the FSP leadership, in-state activists, and others * Sports: volleyball/ultimate frisbee/shooting

Since New Hampshire was voted the freest state in the Union in 2003, at least 220 hardcore libertarian activists have moved here and have had a pro-liberty impact completely out of proportion to their numbers. Local Free Staters now run one print newspaper, four broadcast radio programs and three TV shows. They have become a major lobbying presence in the State House. One has won election to the House, and Free Staters have helped kill hundreds of spending bills. They run New Hampshire's most active web forum; their demonstrations/activities have generated hundreds of mainstream media articles. More importantly, they have become a base of social and political support for one another at a time when the lifestyle of freedom is becoming a dangerous one to live.

The lights of liberty, though mortally threatened in every state, still shine brightest here. Among other positive developments, New Hampshire has recently passed a Constitutional amendment restricting eminent domain, has led the rebellion against Real ID and has outlawed the seizure of lawfully borne firearms during a Katrina-style crisis.

To join our freedom fight from your computer, drop by http://forum.nhfree.com , join our discussion and see what we've been up to.

This is a sick joke.

We have become Northern Massachusetts.

The Donkeys control both houses in the State Legislature AND the Governor’s office.

The governor has signed “Civil Unions” into law.

When the Republicans had control of the State, we got one or two alerts per year from Home School Legal Defense about legislative attacks on our right to homeschool.

Now we are getting one and two alerts PER WEEK!

The Donkeys have taken over and they are aggressively pushing their Cultural Revolution agenda.

New Hampshire is BLUE.

Tell all the illegal Mexican dudes that NH has free food, free Budweiser, free blondes, free housing and free healthcare, and let the socialists in NH worry about them.

You are exactly right. This state is quickly going to the dogs. The state Republican party fell apart after GW was elected the first time. The Bush team ignored the state organization in 2004 and we lost the state.

I don’t think anyone expected it to sink as quickly as it has. Both of our US Representatives are anti-military cut ‘n runners pushing the peace-queer agenda. The Governor and state legislature is racing to implement as much of the democrat liberal, anti-family, gun control, pro-abortion, pro-drug, tax increasing, globaloney agenda as they possibly can. If the ‘free-staters’ have made any difference AND if this is still the freest state in the Union - the rest of the states must REALLY be pathetic.

The only part of the Donkey Agenda that the Free Staters disagree with are gun control and tax increases. They are on board with the Donkeys for legalizing drugs, homo unions, abortion on demand.

I'm actually sick to my stomach at what's happened to New Hampshire.

I kept hoping that Massachusetts and Vermont wouldn't metastasize, but I guess that was a triumph of hope over experience.

It’s been estimated that there’s only 5,000 activists of any political stripe in the entire state. The FSP has the potential to tip the balance in favor of smaller government rather significantly.

“....if this is still the freest state in the Union - the rest of the states must REALLY be pathetic.”

For all the threats to freedom in New Hampshire, and there are plenty...yes I’m afraid it is the least unfree place in the union.

last week for instance I just walked halfway across downtown manchester , and through a throng of police officers open carrying a glock 19 on my hip! The closest they came to stopping me was asking me what type of pistol it was!

Alaska and Wyoming, the other best contenders for freest state in the union, are too dependent on Washington...which controls many of their natural resources. And they are more conservative than libertarian. NH is more libertarian than conservative - slightly. NH was also the only state where the Republicans and a respectable number of local folks actually lobbied for selection by the FSP.

oh also we killed all the NH gun control bills this year and continue to have probably the third best gun freedoms in america.

u can still carry a pistol into a public school and into the state house without breaking the law. a fair number of people do both.

The planned event isn’t exactly the best time of the year for such a gathering. This is the same week as “Laconia Bike Week”. The Lakes Region will be packed with motorcycles. More about “Bike Week” can be seen here http://www.laconiamcweek.com/

I don't think you know what you're talking about.

Unless I'm terribly mistaken, the libertarian free-staters support:

They oppose:

I would be glad to be wrong, but as far as I can tell, this is the platform of the Libertarian party, from which the free-state movement emerged.

The only place I can tell where my ideology intersects with theirs is that I oppose gun control and government giveaway programs.

We would probably agree on the right to homeschool our children, but I haven't seen that as an official plank of the Libertarian party.
