The vessels carry around 17.000 combat and marine personnel. They include the two aircraft carriers, USS Nimitz and USS Stennis, as well as the USS Bonhomme Richard LHD 6 Group, the world's biggest amphibious strike force. Iran was not notified of the planned arrival. Vice President Dick Cheney visited the region and informed Saudi King Abdullah and fellow Gulf rulers that President George W. Bush has determined that if Iran refuses to waive a nuclear weapon capability, the US will attack its nuclear, military and economic infrastructure before he leaves the White House in Jan. 2009. Our sources also note that the US armada sailed into the Gulf on the day the latest UN Security Council ultimatum expired for Iran to give up uranium enrichment or face a fresh set of sanctions...
If this is true, it is hard to see the Saudis objecting since they may be in the sights for Iran if nothing is done.
DEBKA. Can we trust this report? If so, looks like the big stick has arrived.
Oh, Really?
Saber rattling is good.
An impending attack?
Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but Iran can significantly influence the price of oil. Right now we’re paying an all-time high $3.50/gal at the pump. An attack on Iran drives that up, big. How much? I don’t know, but I’d guess double. So, $7/gal.
That’s about $85 to fill a Cavalier.
I would guess that would seriously damage the economy. Less disposable income, less goods being bought. Higher transport costs... etc.
That was my first thought too.
But, at the same time, our taking of the oil fields would incrase the direct supply we have, removing their control, and causing the price to go down.

Fox News seems to be upholding this report too, as a military exercise.

Im certainly no military expert of any kind but...like I said earlier...
...putting a single carrier into as small an area as the Persian Gulf (let alone two) seems like a risky proposition.
If we need to reach targets deep in Iran why not use land based aircraft operating from bases in Iraq?
Try $100/gal after Iran lights up a nuke in New York Harbor next to Jersey Refineries. $7/Gal will look like a bargain.
Maybe we won’t hafta wait for Hillary afterall...
Impossible to hide that.
Freedom ain’t free. I’ve heard it a zillion times! Not willing to pay?
Because our navy will need to enforce a sea based embargo.
Nothing will go in or out of Iran. Nothing.
No nukes, missiles or Oil. Just food going in.
This is something that boggles my mind sometimes. We import the majority of our oil from Canada and Mexico. None from Iran. Why isn’t crude oil bought on long term contracts??? They do it with hydro electric. An incident in Iran should have no impact on the cost of getting oil out of the ground in Mexico. Now whoever is buying oil from Iran might feel a pinch.
“But, at the same time, our taking of the oil fields would incrase the direct supply we have, removing their control, and causing the price to go down.”
IF we had the stones to do it. Unfortunately, our enemies within, (Democrats), would block that so fast our heads would spin.
Thanks, again for the ping, Vroom!
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
This is a medium volume pinglist.
“Freedom aint free. Ive heard it a zillion times! Not willing to pay?”
Yep. I put myself on the line, and would do it again for the right cause. I’m not sold on this being the right cause.
