Thompson In - Yes!

Thompson In
If you believe this report – and we do – former Sen. Fred Thompson will indeed throw his hat in the ring for president of the United States. As many readers of the GOPNation.com know, we endorsed Thompson, believing he is the best candidate at the right time to maintain the White House for the GOP. An Thompson entry would shake up the Republican primary process almost immediately and in our opinion, cause one or two GOP candidates to withdrawel from the race before the end of summer. Stay tuned.

Gingrich Getting Closer
Meanwhile, it looks like former GOP Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich is getting ever closer to his own race for the presidency. In what can only be described as the must-read story of this early week, the New Yorker’s Jeffrey Goldberg paints a GOP in turmoil with its leaders (including Gingrich) at each other’s throats over the party’s losses in 2006 and dwindling chances in 2008. Expect lots of Rove bashing in this piece.

Zoellick at World Bank
President Bush is expected to name deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick to head the World Bank. Zoellick would replace the disgraced Paul Wolfowitz who resigned last week. Hmm, another Bush crony in another plum position. Yeah, that will work out.

Did you hear?
The mainstream press didn’t tell you but we will: gas prices have started to fall, thanks in part to higher inventories and of course, the passage of Memorial Day. Today’s average stands at 3.197/gallon – down 3 cents from the high set on May 24. Don’t worry, any Fourth of July increase will surely be reported as a price surge by the press, no matter how much the prices fall between now and then.

Drudge Headline of the Day
Gotta love this: “I Saw The Climate Change”, describing Nancy Pelosi’s reaction to her recent trip to Greenland. Classic liberalism.

Fred will be the only GOP candidate (including Newt) who is rational, logical, convicted, stalwart, passionate and appealing.

I bet Rudy McRomney and even Newt are not looking forward to Fred's announcement. Hunter is playing his cards right by suggesting more Rs get into the race (hint hint).

Nope. Now way I want to see ‘Global Warming is real’ Newt anywhere near the White House.

But I’m thinking we’ll need a woman on the ticket to counter all of Hellery!s lies and obfuscations by telling us all how a “woman feels”........about issues, that is (!).....

Lynn Cheney? THAT would make the lib's heads explode. :)

Well, duh, Nancy! It IS SPRINGTIME

Did you say springtime?

The Party was having trouble
What a sad, sad story
Needed a new leader to restore
Its former glory
Where, oh, where was she?
Where could that woman be?
We looked around and then we found
The woman for you and me
LEAD TENOR DEMOCRAT OPERATIVE:
And now it's...
Springtime for Hillary and the Party
The White House is happy and gay! ...

Thanks to Mel Brooks. I should re-do the whole song one of these days.

Fred could get one maybe two terms and Mitt two after it. Would be one of the stronger tickets.

There is no way this woman will vote for a woman because she is a woman. I care about the issues. Besides, there are probably more women who won’t vote for a woman because she’s a woman than will.

I like Bolton, too; however, I imagine when all the analysis is complete the Republicans will choose someone who they believe will carry some strategic region of the country. Not sure what Bolton brings to the dance in that department. In my opinion, Bolton would be a superb Secretary of State.

Works for me. Mitt Romney is certainly not a deal-breaker. But first things first. We have to get Thompson in the White House before we start thinking about 2016.

The GOP nomination is now between Fred and whoever’s left of the rest. Rudy and Romney will basically fight to be the one to face Fred.

Use this for entrance into the Cigar Bar when Fred Thompson announces for President to celebrate his candidacy! Only conservatives need attend.

I'll be there. And with a Montecristo, too.

Scientists have noticed that Greenland's output of ice into the North Atlantic had increased dramatically, doubling over the decade that ended in 2005.

Isn't an increase in ice flow into the sea usually a result of an increase in the size of the glaciers? Thicker and heavier glaciers pushing more ice down into the sea?

For more ice to flow down due to melting, it would have to be obviously significant melting. It would seem that slightly increased melting would simply result in the flow of more water rather than the flow of more ice.

I hope that you’re right, but I just cannot get out of my mind, the picture of millions of “Liberated” women going to the polls en masse to “vote for a woman, because it’s OUR time”...............

“I’d like nothing more than to see a Thompson/Gingrich ticket.”

As much as I enjoy Newt’s observations, he is not a viable candidate for the ‘08 ticket. It’s not just his baggage. He is a smart academic who is often too clever by half. His practical wisdom is pretty low, and I doubt if Fred would tolerate him.
