Lions have to eat too. ...they're not vegans, ya know.

There may be arguments about just who is "King of the Beast".

...run little fella run.

Pretty amazing. There was a clip of an elephant protecting its baby from some lions and it was brutal. When the elephant was finished, the only thing left of a couple of the lions was blood and hide smashed into the dirt.

Very cool. I don’t know why, but I just love it when the “prey” turns it around on the “predator”.

Cape Buffalo, the wrong choice for dinner.

Arguably the most foul mood in the wild.

Very cool, thanks for posting.

I spent about a week in the Kruger some years back with my wife + her sister’s family.

Cape buffalo are really some badasses. Very, very surly.

Really cool video!

The 30 second text version for those on dialup:

Buffalo herd inadvertantly walks up on a group of about 5-6 lions, who are lounging at the river’s edge. Lions startle buffalo and catch buffalo calf. The herd runs away. As the lions subdue the calf at the river’s edge crocodiles pop up and scare the crap out of the lions. Lions argue with (HUGE) crocs over calf. They have a tug-of-war with the calf. Lions win and pull calf out of water and up riverbank. Lo and behold, the herd of buffalo is coming back, and they’ve come to open a can of whup ars. Calf sees buffalo coming back and struggles/bellows mightily. Big big BIG buffalo introduces lion to laws of aerodynamics! One by one lions skeedattle, but are largely cornered now by a huge herd of really ticked off buffalo on one side and a river full of crocs on the other. Buffalo calf runs back into the herd. Lions exit stage right one by one, each with a buffalo horn eager to enema.

One of the best videos I’ve seen of that type. Too bad it’s not HD!

Some of the comments are amazing:

“the calf most likely sustained significant injures and i doubt will make it without medical care.”

Maybe they can take it to Buffalo General Hospital.

Spellbinding. Do you know if the baby survived? It was trying to stand.

The Cape Buffalo is a nasty customer. They kill more humans in Africa than lions, by a fair margin. Not at all like their American or Asian cousins.

One thing you learn in Africa is that an animal that may look familiar to you might be a very different customer than you expect. When in India, I got into the habit of being fairly casual around elephants and buffalo. That nearly got me killed when an elephant wandered into our camp.

Metaphorically...
Liberals are the lions...all demanding and aggressive against us.
Conservatives are the buffalo...there are more of us than them, and we can whoop ‘em if we want to.
