Wardens even ordered a lockdown as prisoners — who think Paris pretended to be sick to con doctors — threatened a revolt.
An insider at the prison in Lynwood, California, said: “The women inside the jail are seething. They say if you’re a rich white girl you get special treatment.
“They are furious that while Paris had her own special cell with a panic button, was given better food and was kept away from the general population, she was still released early.
“There are girls in here with cancer, TB, and with MRSA. They aren’t allowed to go home and are treated by prison medical staff.
“The prisoners think if you’re rich and pretend you’re sick you can get away with murder.
“Many of the girls have been locked down in their cells all day because they are so furious. The jail is full of screams about Paris.
“Prison bosses fear this could simmer over into violence.”
Ex-inmate Lisa Caprie said she suffered a nervous breakdown inside but was kept there.
She said: “We heard Paris was treated like the Queen of England. It’s not fair. My husband fought to get me out when I had a breakdown but they didn’t listen.”
And Elana Lamb, set free with an ankle tag, said Paris made a nuisance of herself by repeatedly pressing a medical alert button.
Lamb, 38, said: “She was just whining, complaining she was cold and hungry.”............."

Too bad money doesn’t buy good psychiatric help these days. It’s starting to drive me nuts that posters are comparing Paris to Martha Stewart. Martha Stewart is a self accomplished woman with a set of brass balls. I think what happened to her stunk to high heaven, though. Every time a Clinton or one of their minions greases their way out of trouble, I think of Martha.
How come no one has mentioned Leona Helmsley yet???? She didn’t cry in court either. She’s rich, too :/
So you are saying we should just let people who drive DUI or drive without a license get a free pass? For many a small fine is going to be no deterrent to obey the law. There are maximum fines for infractions. The judge could have given ms Prissy 10 times the max and it would not have been any deterrent to her. Daddy would have taken care of it for her.
I agree, a fine wasn’t going to cut it. She violated her probation already, so the judge probably figured she’d do more of the same and that jail time was the only thing that might get through to her sorry butt.

Driving on a Suspended License in California
Vehicle Code § 14601 makes it a misdemeanor to drive with a suspended license in California. This includes out-of-state drivers whose privilege to drive in California has been revoked. To establish this offense, the prosecution must prove three elements:
1. The person drove a motor vehicle;
2. The person’s driving privilege was suspended or revoked; and
3. The person knew his/her driving privilege had been suspended or revoked
The key element for the legal defense of driving on suspended license cases is the “knowledge requirement.” The prosecution must prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the driver knew his license was suspended. The prosecutor usually relies on DMV records to show that a notice of suspension had been mailed to the driver prior to the date of arrest. But given the tendency of mail to get lost or overlooked, jurors rarely find this evidence sufficient to meet the prosecutor’s heavy burden in a criminal case.
Penalties for Driving With a Suspended License in California
Driving on a suspended license is a misdemeanor offense and punishment may include probation, jail time and substantial fines. Penalties in a given case depend on (1) the reason the license was suspended and (2) whether the defendant suffered prior convictions for driving with a suspended license. Generally, penalties are higher if the license was suspended or revoked because of a DUI conviction, a vehicular manslaughter conviction, or a finding that the driver is a habitual traffic offender.

Driving When Privilege Suspended or Revoked
14601. (a) No person shall drive a motor vehicle at any time when that person’s driving privilege is suspended or revoked for reckless driving in violation of Section 23103 or 23104, any reason listed in subdivision (a) or (c) of Section 12806 authorizing the department to refuse to issue a license, negligent or incompetent operation of a motor vehicle as prescribed in subdivision (e) of Section 12809, or negligent operation as prescribed in Section 12810.5 , if the person so driving has knowledge of the suspension or revocation. (1) Upon a first conviction, by imprisonment in a county jail for not less than five days or more than six months and by a fine of not less than three hundred dollars ($300) or more than one thousand dollars ($1,000).

Her sentence is well within the parameters and is not excessive.
Then double the fine and give her home detention. If she violates it again, double the fine and sentence. Rinse, repeat.
She pays enough taxes to justify almost anything. On the other hand, if you let rich people think jail is “nice” they’ll be loathe to pay taxes (much more than at present).
Several posters have corrected me on the “panic button” issue.
They can’t let her out in general population, and she can’t handle the solitude. The guards must have gotten very pissed off, but to her it was human contact. This is getting very sad :(

Don't mean to rag on you, but "charming" is about the last word I would use to describe Paris Hilton.
She may be many things, good or bad, but charming isn't one of them.

You're missing her disregard for the law. Instead of driving, why didn't she get a driver? Because the law doesn't apply to her. She did not comply with any of her probation. She disregarded all the rules. That is serious. Nothing they did deterred her which is the point. The law is a deterrent to antisocial/dangerous behaviour. Instead of realizing the seriousness of her behaviour, she plays poor picked on waif. She broke laws and believes she should have no consequences. The law says otherwise.
One of my friends just completed Sheriff Joe’s training class. he placed number 4 in the class. He says it is a tough class. A relatively high percentage washed out.
Did I mention my friend is 57 and 9 months ago he was in the hospital for over 30 days? I was IMPRESSED.
Actually that’s a good way of describing her — a charming train wreck.
