Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson is the most supportive of Israel

Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson is the most supportive of Israel out of a dozen or so politicians seeking to win the US presidential seat. The former actor, who has also served as a US senator, claims Israel has been too restrained in its responses to Palestinian terrorism.

“Israel is at war,” Thompson opined in a column for the conservative website Townhall.com. And the Jewish State has gone to “incredible lengths to stop the war against them without harming Palestinian non-combatants.”

Thompson is also recorded as supporting an Israeli military strike against Iran, should international boycotts and diplomacy fail to detour the Islamic Republic from its nuclear arms race.

Thompson is expected to make his first visit to Israel in the near future where he will meet with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and other senior officials.

Liberal political elements in Israel fear Thompson is too far-right in his opinions and may do eventual harm to Israel. There are many in Israel, however, who would welcome Thompson and his hard-line policy against terror onboard the US leadership team. (Sources: Israel Today/IHC)

Nobody who appoints people like Rice, who has an obvious anti-Israel bias, is truly supportive of Israel. This administration has bound Israel’s hands on many isnstances.

The U.S. is in a much better position (and far better equipped) to take care of that particular business. We have Iran surrounded on three sides -- Iraq to the west, Afghanistan to the east, and our huge naval presence in the Persian Gulf to the south. Israeli fighter-bombers would have to fly over several Arab nations to get to the targets in Iran, of which there are dozens.

If the Iranian nuke facilities are to be bombed it will almost certainly be an American effort.

That said, Fred's position on Israel is refreshing. Unlike the Bush admin Thompson doesn't sound like he's anxious to help put an Arab terror state on Israel's doorstep. Nor does he seem to be the type to endlessly spout about Islam being "a religion of love and peace". ....nor the type to allow terrorists like al-Sadr off the hook because of excessive concern about losing the "hearts and minds" of "the Arab street." .....etc.

A debate to see who is more supportive of Israel, Hunter or ‘is Fredness,....?

THAT would prevent ANY crossover votes from the left side; the so called independents who veer a bit from the leftist center.
It would hit their JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSS bone and they would run screaming *ZOG!,ZOG! ZOG!! in a
trice.

*Zionist Occupation Government

Baloney. Rice is not anti-Israel. How have we tied Israel's hands? Israel does what is best for its national interests regardless of what the US says or does. And there are plenty of differences within Israel on what is the best course of action.

Put some blame on the Israelis themselves as well. They elected this idiot Olmert and the Kadima/Labour parties, who are cowards, inept of conducting a war and give away Israeli territory.

But the Israelis are now wiser than before and apparently a fastly growing number is ready to vote for real leadership und Netanyahu and the real Likud.

The inclination of many Israelis to vote leftist appeasers is suicidal. When the Likud is back in power the springtime for the terrorists will be over.

Olmert was the inheritor, not the elected official.
Sharon invented the Kadima party, many of whose members have not returned to the Likud party. Sharon went kaput and his deputy PM got the role.
He screwed it up, lost a war of deterrence, he viciously attacked his own people, lost the security belt of Gaza(Gush Katif) and is currently the target of more criminal investigations than William Jefferson (D-La), plus is a breath away from being dragged out of the PM’s office, kicking and screaming.
His popularity is at a level that makes George Bush breath easier in that it is so much lower than Bush’s, it makes him look good in comparison.(2%)(It cannot be measured at a point lower than that) All indications are that Kadima will lose as many as four fiths of it's base this next election cycle, as well as the PM, the national leadership, the cabinet and the majority of the Knesset(Parliament).

Olmert was the inheritor, not the elected official.

The first part of that is true, the second part false. Olmert was himself elected PM under the Kadima slate after succeeding Sharon after the latter's disability.

All indications are that Kadima will lose as many as 4/5 of its base this next election cycle.

That very well may be true, but how long do we have to wait before new elections are called?

“How long do we have to wait until new elections are called?”

Until the government falls due to a parliamentary lack of confidence vote is passed.(hopefully very soon) Or until the term of office is complete(unlikely). Or the criminal indictment of the PM.(within weeks)
Or until the majority held under the form of a coalition is broken, (very VERY Labor being pulled from the government with the election of Barak as head of the Labor party.)

Ping!

Thompson is definitely supportive of Israel, but some would put Duncan Hunter at least equal to him.

I am personally inclined to support Hunter, but since few people have heard of him I am willing to fall back on Thompson as second choice. I'm just glad our conservative candidates are pro-Israel (there was a time when Ron Paul's hostility was the rule rather than the exception).

The first vote I ever cast was for Ronald Reagan in my state's Republican primary in 1976. In the same primary four years later I voted for Philip Crane instead of Reagan, so I'm pretty ideological. But I voted Reagan in the general, of course!

McKinney was a wackjob. So is John Conyers - and Dingle or Dingleberry as I call him, is another. Ron Paul is not so hot on terrorism either.

A meaningless handful out of 435 in the House and 100 in the Senate.

” That’s still true, but the tide is turning. The old FDR worshippers are dying off.’

Well, no.

Using an exit poll by Republican pollster Arthur Finkelstein, the RJC said the Jewish vote for Republicans “held steady” from levels in past elections from 1992 to 2004. “At the same time,” it said, “in a difficult political environment, the national vote for Republicans declined significantly, resulting in the loss of control of the House and possibly the Senate.”

Which means most American Jews will vote against him. They’ll vote for Hillary or Osama (or is that Obama, I’m never sure) or Ellison before they’ll vote for a true supporter of Israel.
Would they vote for Hussein Obama? Maybe.
Frankly, although I am both Jewish and a Zionist, I don't think that this is how one should get votes.
