Romney Steps Up Advertising Push
The New York Times ^ | June 13, 2007 | MICHAEL LUO

Mitt Romney has stepped up what is already the costliest early advertising push in a presidential campaign, an effort that his advisers and several media experts credit with helping vault him to the lead in the Republican field in some recent polls in Iowa and New Hampshire.

Mr. Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, has spent some $4 million on television advertising since February, focusing mostly on Iowa and New Hampshire, crucial early voting states, according to industry estimates and tracking by an opposing campaign. That heavy spending comes even though the first nominating contests are at least six months away.

He increased his advertising in a huge way last month, spending more than $2 million, much of it on national cable advertisements. This month, he added a run of television commercials in South Carolina, another early primary. His aggressiveness this early over the airwaves stands in contrast to his Republican competitors, who have yet to broadcast any television spots...

Several media experts said Mr. Romney’s approach could become a model for future candidates and expressed surprise that his opponents had let him have the advertising stage to himself for so long.

This strategy is consistent with his business approach. When introducing a new product, saturate the market with advertising. The political world works the opposite way, flooding television in the weeks before an election.

Oh yeah? Fred doesn't squash any bugs that aren't right under his feet in his easy chair. ;-)

He’s certainly spent money in the NYC market area. I thought this was Hillary and Rudy country, but Mitt’s decided otherwise.

New product, ha. With Precious Willard, it’s just like what they do at the supermarket deli. Put out some old/expired, near-rancid meat, and slap a “it’s fresh !” label on it. We can still smell the product, and we ain’t buyin’.

I read Mitt Romney’s book “Turnaround” about how he turned the Olympics around. If you want to know how he thinks and operates, read his book. It’s great!!

That may be the political world approach but I can tell you this from an old political junkie:

In politics you hit ‘em early and you hit ‘em late with ads. In the meantime, you work tirelessly on personal contacts.

Well, hey, he’s decided to run his campaign like a rodent. If you can’t tell the truth about your record, lie your a$$ off.

Its ironic that McCain’s campaign finance reform bill will be the end of him, as Romney’s unlimited pockets continue to fund his advertising, while McCain struggles to collect $2300 per contributer. Another fine piece of Senate legislation. How did Fred vote on this again...somebody remind me. I have a terrible memory!

I know our good friend, the anti-Mitt would show up before long. Gotta hand it to you for single minded focus on taking Romney down.
