Duncan Hunter on CNN(transcript
CNN ^ | June 17, 2007

Posted on 06/18/2007 8:30:49 AM PDT by rob21

BLITZER: The contest for the Republican presidential nomination is clearly far from over as GOP voters continue to look for alternatives. One of those hoping to break out of the pack is joining us today from San Diego. Republican Congressman Duncan Hunter of California is the ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee, a former chairman of that panel. He wants to be president of the United States.

Thanks very much for coming in, Congressman.

HUNTER: Good to be with you, Wolf. Happy Father's Day.

BLITZER: Thank you. Happy Father's Day to you, as well. We'll talk about your son a little bit later. He's serving right now in Afghanistan.

But let's talk about immigration reform first. And I'm going to play a clip for you from what the president said this week. He'd desperately trying to get this legislation through the Senate, so then it will come to your chamber, the House of Representatives.

And he offered this idea. Listen to what the president said.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BUSH: I support an amendment that will provide $4.4 million in immediate, additional funding for securing our borders and enforcing our laws at the work site. The funding will come from the fines and penalties that we collect from those who have come to our country illegally.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BLITZER: All right. What do you think about that idea. That $4.4 billion is a lot of money to beef up the border between the U.S. and Mexico, something you desperately want.

HUNTER: Well, you know, Wolf, I think it's terrible. I like the president. But I think it's a terrible trade for the president of the United States or the Senate, which really has this amendment, to trade border security for amnesty.

Alas, in Oregon, just like in Iowa, where they arrested the illegals working there, a line up of citizens to take those jobs appeared the next day.

I’m not a fredbot and I’m overlooking nothing. Neither am I choosing one against the other yet. I have two lists: could maybe vote for, could never vote for. I want all the data on the people in the first list so I can weigh all the pros and cons.

He did do a great job. But he just isn’t winnable against the Clinton machine. That is why I am with Fred. I do wish that Hunter would consider a VP run. Guliani and MCCain need to go ahead and withdraw soon and endorse a candidate with a chance. Same with Romney.

After a lifetime of doing what we don’t want them to do, in most cases.

Tancredo just won a vote in the House that passed a bill that was against santuary cities for illegals

That's a a huge victory for America and a huge loss for liberals, unions,Democrats and illegals.

Unions hope to make those Amnesty illegals union members and Democrats hope to make them voters. So don't tell me these 2 groups aren't driving this push for Amnesty .

Michelle Malkin had a list of groups that included, La Raza, unions, and Soros groups who are lobbying congress and in many cases in on backroom meetings with Senators engineering this Amnesty bill that would destroy America and turn it into a 3rd world socialist hell hole. The bill would give Amnesty to 20 million illegals who would then get to get to bring their 200 million family members to the U.S.,register as Democrats voters, and join unions now that they are legal.

I like Duncan Hunter and Tom Tancredo. Hunter/Tancredo or Tancredo/Hunter.

Actually Tancredo is closer to my beliefs but Hunter is great.

Duncan Hunter knows the Clinton Machine very well.

"The Clinton-Gore Administration has, through fumbling incompetence and short-sighted policies, lost critical defense secrets," said Hunter. "The recent incident at Los Alamos National Laboratory is indicative of the irresponsibility and disregard this administration has given to protecting America's national security. This legislation begins to correct the problem."

Hunter does not have the right name recognition. He is awesome, don’t get me wrong. JUst not ready for the big leagues and after having our RINO in office for the last 8 years, we cannot gamble on a Obamam or Clinton presidency.

He has successfully fought her husband, especially on military matters, so there’s no reason that he would not be able to take on the beast herself.

Next we’re going to here that he can’t beat Clinton because he doesn’t have the name recognition. Never mind the fact that if he wins, he’ll have the same amount of name recognition as whoever the rats put up.

I like Duncan Hunter a lot!!

Unfortunately, it just seems like he is not getting any traction. I believe he is only at 1% in the polls. He needs to raise more money to get his message out. Unfortunately, until he rises in the polls, he won’t be able to raise much money. A catch 22

It’s a shame because I think he would be a lot like Teddy Roosevelt as president. (who just so happens to be my favorite former president) It’s interesting also that TR made some comments about the latest wave of immigration in his day. How he did not support illegal immigration and that the immigrants coming over had to learn to speak English and conform to being an American.

The three that I like best in the Republican field are Duncan Hunter, Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson. I really hope that one of them gets the nod...

Tancredo has been one of a handful of great congressman to join Hunter’s fight against illegal aliens since arriving in DC. Good one Tom!

Funny thing is, if that is your standard (name recognition), you will end up with a RINO in office.

Works out that way when the RINOs running for office are affiliated with the polling companies and media ;)

Well then do your part to make sure that he does increase in the polls. Donate to his campaign, call talk radio, tell all of your friends and family about him, get a bumper sticker, etc. There are so many things that you can do to help Hunters campaign. Complaining about it on FR isn’t going to change anything!

Hunter is actually in a league by himself. None of the others compare. It’s beyond big leagues.
