WASHINGTONSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid introduced an updated immigration bill Monday, launching one more attempt to conclude debate on the contentious issue and approve the measure in the Senate before Congress breaks for the 4th of July holiday.
The next two weeks are likely the last chance for passage of an immigration bill in the Senate this year, and this seems to be a critical make-or-break moment for advocates of comprehensive reform.
The bill was pronounced all but dead two weeks ago, when Reid, a Nevada Democrat, pulled it from consideration after several motions to limit debate failed. At the time, several Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), insisted Reid had rushed a process that would have likely resulted in passage of the bill, had Republicans simply been afforded more time to offer amendments.
A group of bipartisan senators, the original architects of the measure, spent the bulk of last week deciding on an acceptable list of amendments, whittling a few hundred proposals down to a final 22, split between Republicans and Democrats.
McConnell said on Sunday that the eventual outcome of the bill, which would mandate improvements in border security and employee verification programs and put the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S. on a pathway to citizenship, is too close to call.

That means it is not going to pass with the way he counted the votes internally. Could Reid be bringing it back just to get more backlash against the GOPhers that vote for this? It's Machiavellian, but ya never know...? Why shouldn't the Democrats push this bill? If it wins the Democrats are in the catbird seat, and even if it loses they still benefit from the anti-GWB backlash (which GWB deserves 100%)

I hope Sen. Jeff Sessions is up to pointing out the flaws quickly. He's been, all along, every time. I have no doubt he will yet again....perhaps with even more outrage!

This is a huge missed opportunity. If the dems would have went for this without republican support, the republicans could have went after the dems in congress on this issue, more united than ever. We could have destroyed the dems with this issue during the next election. Instead, the president took the lead on the issue, and enough republican senators fell in line to make it happen, leaving the republican party divided, to the point of breaking apart completely. I have believed for awhile, and still believe, that there are a number of RINOs who, despite running under the Republican ticket, view those who uphold the GOP plank as their enemies and Democrats as their friends. Such people are more reliant upon Democrat vote fraud than are even the Democrats.

You might want to look into the book Bless Me Ultima and both of the Bush’s reaction to it.

Obviously the guy who claimed to be a compassionate conservative lied through his teeth! I certainly feel that I have been suckered since I voted for the dolt twice....... Yes he is....unfortunately, there's many in that "club of fools," myself included.

The Kennedy/McCain Amnesty Bill is Baaaaackkk!
It does not simply say: Stop all illegal border crossings.
Anything more than that is smooth political trickery that is really focused on AMNESTY.
Your senator wants YOUR job, and he wants YOU poor! The better to keep you in abject submission.

Call his DC office. Sen. Lamar Alexander phone 202-224-4944 fax 202-228-3398
Sen. Bob Corker phone 202-224-3344 fax 202-228-0566
I made it clear I didn't want to pay higher property taxes because of the millions in extended families coming in and I would NOT vote for Lamar again. This PIG of an amnesty bill has to be killed in committee.
