Over the past couple of days, I've heard - more that once -that Reid has now descended into bribing Senators for a cloture vote; that is, they'll be guaranteed that their pet amendment will be brought up if they commit to voting for cloture. It is being speculated that Kay Bailey falls into that category.
I certainly hope this isn't true.
I am finding it increasingly hard to believe that they and their staff are stupid enough to buy into Reid’s deal that if they vote for cloture, their bill will be brought up for a vote (and is nevertheless guaranteed to lose). If their amendments are such a great idea, why didn’t they introduce them as free standing legislation? So I am now leaning toward the interpretation of this that says they are buying into Reid’s deal, knowing their pet amendment will fail, to GIVE THEMSELVES COVER TO VOTE FOR CLOTURE. A vote for cloture is a vote in support of this horrible legislation. Period. They think we are too dumb to figure this out.
