This is just a layman’s notion, but if the Tunguska projectile were a comet consisting mainly of frozen water, could the explosion that occurred be the result of air friction bringing that mass of water to a sudden, violent boil?
Actually scientific belief at the moment is it was a stony asteroid that exploded in midair, not a comet.

Beautiful, once you realize you’re zooming in on ice, not cloud cover...but about 20 degrees too far north for my tastes.
And also about 180 degrees wrong both politically & longitudinally.
