Chains refuse to put calories on menus

NEW YORK - Don't expect to see the calorie count for Burger King's Double Whopper with cheese on the menu anytime soon.

Burger King, McDonald's and Wendy's are among the chains planning to defy New York City's new rule that they begin posting calories on menus Sunday.

Other big fast food eateries like Taco Bell and KFC aren't saying whether they will comply, but with just days to go until the deadline, the menu boards in their Big Apple restaurants remain unchanged.

All are hoping a New York Restaurant Association lawsuit in federal court will get the new regulation thrown out. Meanwhile, the city won't fine anyone for violating it until October.

"We are not trying to avoid providing this information to customers," said Wendy's spokesman Denny Lynch. He noted that the company has made nutritional information available for 30 years on fliers and posters.

However, New York is the first city in the country to require certain fast food restaurants to list calorie counts next to menu items in type that is at least as large as the price.

Lynch says adding all those numbers will make menus impossible to read.

"You'll either have to have a Times Square-sized menu board, or it could look like a bad day at the eye doctor's office," said Jack Whipple, president of the National Council of Chain Restaurants."

Fast food chains also say they have been unfairly singled because the new rule only applies to restaurants that serve standardized portions and offer nutritional information voluntarily.

Michael Jacobson of the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a health advocacy group, had a different take:

"They are afraid that when people see these eye-popping calorie numbers, they might switch to a smaller size," he said. "They feel it is gong to hurt sales."

For the record, that Double Whopper with Cheese will run you 990 calories, or more than half the recommended daily calories for an adult woman.

Its their right. Anyone who isn’t retarded knows that a burger and fries aren’t exactly health food.

“4010 calories, 226 grams of fat.”

Cool! That means I have room to stop at the ice cream shop on the way home.

Sure, why not.

My favorite desert is from the local soft-serve ice cream shop, the Pecan Royal.

Ice cream, hot fudge, covered with pecans, whipped cream and a cherry.

For breakfast I like 6 eggs OE, new york strip-rare, hash browns and toast.

I still never gained any weight all the time I was working.

I’m 6’1” and stayed at about 190#.

I don’t eat as much now that I’m not working.

Calories taste good! The better it tastes the more calories it has. It is not rocket science.

I like your spirit, Beagle. Are you one of those skinny guys with a hollow leg who can eat anything and not gain weight?

Is 6’1” 190# skinny?

Yes, I can eat anything and as much as I want without gaining weight.

My cholesterol is, as my Dr. says, surprisingly perfect.

Hahah, ok, what if I get one double-double and TWO fries? Dang those fries are good. Would you like a milkshake with that?????????

Maybe THAT’s what we’ll have for dinner.

Say, won’t they FedEx you one??

Take my word for it, tho. It is one of the only remaining good things here in So Cal. I mean, weather and beach and all. But YEGAD, up in Sacramento they are stark=raving mad, and the LA City policy seems to be ‘whack the White Folks and let the illegals beat the police up.’

I do miss Gladstones and the Reel Inn. Actually, I miss LA quite a lot but am staying put in the midwest. California isn’t what it was when I moved there and Socialism really wasn’t my thing. How much fun I had when I lived there but now I own my own home, something I never could have done in LA, and am in a state full of conservatives. Granted, Kansas has its share of RINOs, and now I must fight to rid the state of such filth, along with our Governor.

I think the high metabolism/ calorie burn rate runs in my family because my brothers are the same way.

That is why I don’t care much for most restaurants, I have to double order or eat again when I get home.

Is 6’1” 190# skinny?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

That used to be a very big man but now it is not so unusual to see 13 year olds who weigh more than you. I am 6’4” and the last time I weighed 190 was long ago and I looked like a beanpole. My metabolism has slowed down to the point that I eat a small fraction of what you say you eat and work out in the gym 3 days a week for about 2 hours each trip and I still weigh about 265 stepping into the shower. I am gradually losing fat but I still weigh the same. It seems I have a choice between heavy and fat or heavy and muscular. Given that choice I prefer heavy and muscular. I now wear size 38 pants and size 52 coat, I used to wear size 33 pants and a 44 coat. I envy you!
I suppose I should be happy that I am very healthy at 63 and my blood pressure runs about 115 over 65. I pick wild blackberries in the South Carolina sun for fun so I am probably mentally deranged.

“I pick wild blackberries in the South Carolina sun for fun so I am probably mentally deranged.”

I must have the same derangement. I pick wild blackberries, black raspberries, dewberries, elderberries, and gooseberries on my property.

There are also black and English walnuts, hickory nuts, and several kinds of mushrooms.

I also do a lot of hunting and fishing ( private pond) on my property.

I wonder if eating lots of wild foods plays a part in metabolism?

Wasn’t this one of the things so-called RINO “independent” (really, whatever party gets me the most stuff) Bloomoberg rammed down the throats (no pun intended) of New Yorkers?
