PLANTATION -- One gunman is dead and another is in critical condition after they tried to rob a sandwich store and were shot by an armed customer Wednesday night, authorities said.

Donicio Arrindell, 22, of North Lauderdale, and Fredrick Gadson, 21, of Fort Lauderdale, entered a Subway restaurant at 1949 N. Pine Island Rd. and demanded money at gunpoint about 11:17 p.m., said Detective Robert Rettig, a police spokesman.

They then attempted to rob the lone customer, John Lovell, 71, of Plantation, by forcing him into the restroom, but Lovell, who was legally armed, pulled his gun and fired, police said.

Arrindell collapsed at the scene, while a police K9 unit found Gadson hiding in a hedge in front of a nearby bank at the Jacaranda Square shopping center, officials said.

Both men were taken to Broward General Medical Center, where Arrindell died.

Gadson was in critical but stable condition, investigators said.

Police said Lovell

I’ve eaten at the subway many times.

But I wonder how one armed old guy shot two armed young guys.

I'll guess experience and range time heavily favored the " old guy". The thugs probably picked up all of their firearms training from video games and/or rap videos.

When you hold your pistol sideways (horizontally) over your head when you point it, you can't hit much. But you do look real GANSTA.

Does this mean Subway will have to change its motto from “Subway - Eat Fresh” to “Subway - Eat Lead”?

A leftist who is occasionally paid to pretend to be a tough guy on the screen? No, John Lovell is vastly better than an "Eastwood" type.

The same way you get to Carnegie Hall: practice, practice, practice!
I love our state too, even down here in Mordor-by-the-Sea.

“When you hold your pistol sideways (horizontally) over your head when you point it, you can’t hit much. But you do look real GANSTA.”

That is one of the best scenes in the Simpsons.

Lou: Hey, Chief, can I hold my gun sideways? It looks so cool.

Wiggum: Sure, whatever you want, birthday boy.

You gotta feel for the poor guy making minimum wage who has to squeegee the brains from the floor. OTOH, they aren't his brains.

What is unmeasurable but perfectly valid is how much safer that store's unarmed patrons and management will be after this incident. It will appear in no statistic anywhere, but word does get around. The great fallacy of the gun controllers is that everyone is going to walk around armed to the teeth. They don't have to.

How come every time I watch the house TV show ‘Cribs’ all the brothers live in totally white, square suburban developments? How come they don’t live in the ‘hood, keeping it real?

Hip Hop. Suckers.

That's what I love about FR, the blending of different opinions and experiences.

I read the article, concealed carry permit which implies competancy, ex Marine, I wondered if Gadson appreciated how lucky he is to be alive.

Hopefully he'll have so time to contemplate it behind bars.

According to the Miami Herald's report, he hit one guy in the head and chest and the other in the head.

Two head shots and another shot hitting center mass. Yep, that's a Marine, all right.
