I would offer them the following amnesty: If they leave the country by a certain date, they will not be prosecuted for having been here illegally, and will not be penalized for having been here illegally in any other dealings they have with the US. If they apply for a visa or a green card, they will be treated on the merits.

If they don't leave, then they will be subject to arrest, fines, forefeiture of property such as cars that they have acquired here without paying our taxes. They will get to stay in tent cities while their cases are processed, and then they will get sent back deep into the interior of their home countries.

They'll start leaving, especially when their employers stop hiring them for fear of jail time, and when their kids can no longer attend school or get free health care.

I’m all for that! Give them 60-90 days to pack up and get moving South before the law moves in.

Thanks greatly for your post. I feel it is a confirmation of a post I put out a few weeks ago. However, you have added something more and better than mine....to wit “If they don’t leave, then they will be subject to arrest, fines, forefeiture of property such as cars that they have acquired here without paying our taxes. They will get to stay in tent cities while their cases are processed, and then they will get sent back deep into the interior of their home countries.”

I think the illegals are smart enough to see the handwriting on the wall and would self deport. Doing so would still leave them with a clean criminal record. Put yourself in their position......would you self deport, or wait around for the hassel that arrest and forfeiture would entail ?

I think it would be “Adios City”.
