Through sheer force of will and/or idiocy, he’s managed to stretch his vote Thursday morning on cloture into a three-day, Kerryesque fiasco. Yesterday he said he’d intended to switch from yes to no all along. Today, a more nuanced explanation emerges.
Exactly the type of man we need in the White House right now.
Though some on both sides of the issue accused Brownback of flip-flopping once he saw that he would end up on the losing side of the debate, the senator suggested that it was again compassion this time for a general public deeply divided over how to deal with immigration that drove his mid-vote change.
Brownback told Congressional Quarterlys CQToday, I just concluded as I was on the floor that the country is just not ready. He added that the issue just needs to rest for a while.
More specifically, he concluded this while he was on the floor after he’d already voted and the bill had already gone down to defeat. So his insight into what America is “ready” for is basically of the same order of profundity as a kindergartner who can count successfully up to the magic cloture-busting number of 40.
Meanwhile, the Times is startled by the “heated rhetoric” and verbal “pollut[ion]” of the amnesty debate. Not the Nazi jibes and slavery analogies and relentless, shrieking accusations of bad faith and racism directed at amnesty opponents from Bush on down, but rather by Jeff Sessions’s remark that illegals had “broken in” to America by running past the National Guard. Which of course, they have; hence the term “illegals.” We Nazis will pay dearly for such incendiary invective at the polls, the Gray Lady warns. Exit question: Is the fact that the Times considers him an official Reasonable Voice the final nail in the coffin of Lindsey Graham’s credibility?
I was thinking about looking into this guy as a possible candidate to support. This means I don’t have to. He’s disqualified himself.
The best way to describe Sam Brownback is Mush Minded. He so desperately wants to do the RIGHT thing, that he ends up doing the WRONG thing...poorly. Basically he wants everybody to WUV him for having a “good heart.” Instead he comes off as the utter FOOL that he is.
Sam, it was nice, and we really do appreciate all the work you’ve done for the life issue.
But you’ve blown it. You’d make a great Secretary of HHS.
Sam Brownback is that your final answer? You moron. Resign now.
Pretty soon we will be seeing “99% discount on Brownback presidential campaign items”....this dude needs to drop out
It is that simple.
Meanwhile, the angry left and the MSM is in full bore propaganda mode to "blame" the GOP for defeating this horrible bill.
From the NY Slimes:
After Bills Fall, G.O.P. May Pay in Latino Votes
Oh, ummm K. I thought the Senate was controlled by Harry Reid and the Demoncrats, but the NY Slimes didn't get the memo.
Moreover, if this bill had passed, Republicans couldn't have been reelected dog catcher.
This has got me thinking. If someone campaigns saying “I voted against such and such” how do we know they didn’t change their vote like Brownback did. Is there a source to look it up without spending hours of time?
Arkansas Senator Pryor was a pancake also.
He voted for cloture earlier in the week. He voted against it at the final.
He didn’t want to be on the losing side.
Guess who is up for reelection next fall?
I just concluded as I was on the floor that the country is just not ready. He added that the issue just needs to rest for a while.
To claim sudden enlightenment AFTER casting the Aye vote..while watching the bill get defeated shows us more than we wanted to know about your character.
“Is the fact that the Times considers him an official Reasonable Voice the final nail in the coffin of Lindsey Grahams credibility?”
If not, Mort Kondrake and Fred Barnes naming him a “hero” on their Fox program, “Beltway Boys,” has finished the job. They were pre-empted in their 5:00PM slot yesterday by events in Glasgow, but I made it a point to tune in at 10:00PM to see what their final word on their amnesty till defeat would be. They better hope that not many people saw their temper tantrum, caused by the meanies who listened to talk radio and contacted their Senators. It was pathetic.
You can do just about anything with them,\.
Wobbly on Iraq as well... this jackass brings nothing to the 08’ race.
“Mort Kondrake and Fred Barnes naming him a hero on their Fox program...”
Better yet were these 2 yahoos using the term of Kennedy as “the liberal lion” and going on and on about how when you had a “deal” with Kennedy, you knew he was going to keep it, blah, blah, blah.
I use to like these guys, but Mort seems more and more like he’s just come off repeated hang overs, and Fred is the kind of pompous, interupting ass you’d just love to punch out for no reason at all.
Why is it that I am thinking “I voted for the $87 billion before I voted against it.”?
Isn't that the truth. He was prepared to vote on a bill that he had not read and the impact of which on this country he had not studied because it sounded "compassionate." And he's not the only one.
