LONDON - Female genital mutilation, commonly associated with parts of Africa and the Middle East, is becoming a growing problem in Britain despite efforts to stamp it out. London's Metropolitan Police, Britain's largest police force, hopes a campaign beginning on Wednesday will highlight that the practice is a crime here.
To make their point, police are offering a $40,000 reward for information leading to Britain's first prosecution for female genital mutilation, Detective Chief Superintendent Alastair Jeffrey said.
In Britain, the problem mostly involves first-generation immigrants from Africa and the Middle East.

Is VOLUNTARY mutilation included? I have heard some pretty horrific sounding things done with piercing and surgical procedures that woman VOLUNTARILY undergo.... So is that illegal too?
It’s not circumcision, it’s castration.
Neither term is accurate. It is certainly not circumcision. It is mutilation, but it doesn't render the girl sterile or incapable of sex. Therefore castration is not any more accurate than circumcision.
Good point, but it’s castration in that it renders a woman incapable of enjoying sex. She is reduced to a baby machine and matress cover.

This is ghastly, inhuman, disgusting, and altogether evil!! Anyone who even thinks of doing such a barbaric act should be locked up for life. No chance of parole. Or better yet hanged.
