Bush: Americans will realize need for aliens
The Washington Times ^ | July 20, 2007 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 07/20/2007 6:17:46 PM PDT by Baladas

President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.

Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.

If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.

"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."

Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

Then there are people like me. Now that my children are all grown, I would like to have a part-time job. Since I haven’t been employed outside of the home for years, I probably would be able to make $8 to $10 an hour, at best. However, I would be taxed at my husband’s rate, so between the extra costs involved in my working (clothes, commute, etc.) and the taxes I would pay on the piddling income, I might just about break even.

Of course English is partially a Germanic language, just as it’s partially Latin, but when did we ever vote?

When I was in England a few years ago, an Englishman told me that his language, English, is actually a mix or composition of many other languages. Partly due to the fact that the island was invaded numerous times. When our country was founded the number 1 ethnicity was German while the number 2 ethnicity was Scottish. Number 3 was British. So the native ethnic languages of the American people at the time were primarily Germanic German, Germanic English and Celtic Scottish. The British were operating with the Germanic English language. Now I have read somewhere, will try to find it for you, that after our revolution there were discussions about what the national language should be. Many people were still fluent in Germanic German and some Celtic Scottish. From what I have read, again cannot remember where, our founders or representatives took a vote on what the official language would be. Or in other words, what language the Declaration of Independence should be written in. One would think that anything British or English at the time was not viewed very respectfully. So obviously a decision was made or perhaps voted on by our representatives to write all government proceedings in English. I have read about this somewhere. Cannot remember where right now. I will get back to you either way. Give me a day or two to search me neurons. Perhaps a pint of Newcastle might help :>

It *is* about slave wages. Trust me, illegal mexicans are enslaved. They're worked like slaves.

Oh, I agree friend, many are making a very nice living off low wage illegal labor, on the backs of Americans.

But I do believe there are other motives in the mix here.

We could ask many of them to enlist in the WOT.

I say any Mexican who will fight in our services deserves not only citizenship for him, but for 6 other family members.

What else did you have in mind.

HAH! This from the guy who thinks Johnny Sutton is a GOOD guy...

Bush doesn’t get it. I, for one, am the child and grandchild of immigrants and I thank God for it. No one is going to have to convince ME that immigration is a GOOD thing.

Now here is the difference: My family did it LEGALLY- L-E-G-L..get it now GW? And they made sure they learned English, and they made sure they became AMERICANS. They ALSO knew that if they broke the law, they were out. No ACLU, no protest groups, no “sensitivity” about their culture and no whiny left wing.

Illegals add not ONE damn thing to our country. They work for wages below, sometimes FAR below, what these SOB business owners and farm owners would have to pay legitimate American workers. The illegals are exploited for MONEY and George wants us to condone THAT? Americans don’t want to do these jobs? Damn straight, not for what these illegals are being paid.

In the meantime, the American taxpayer pays through the nose for his kids’ education, healthcare and food stamps...and the illegal sends HIS money to Mexico.

Bite me, George.

That was such a ridiculous comment, I just couldn't respond to it.

Thanks for saying what I was thinking.

A contractor hires three or four Hispanics at regular wage; next day they each show up with a cousin who’ll work for less so the contractor makes one of his first hires a foreman and the others leaders.

The cousins now all bring in cousins who in turn will work for even less than the others.

The contractor snatches them up, calls all the english-speaking workers together and explains that “times are hard” and he has to let some go, anyone speak Spanish?

A couple of hands shoot up and he keeps them after telling them that he has to cut their pay by a buck or so an hour for a week, maybe two.

By the end of the second week since the first Hispanic was hired, no English is heard spoken on the jobsite and only the steady rap-tap-tap and the bang-bang-bang of the hammers and the power guns echoes off the walls where once the roar of Dodge Rams and F-150s belched to life when the sun begins to kiss the treeline.

And the contractor can be seen behind the shades of his 10X40 mobile, counting his greenbacks while the wetbacks sweat.

“Would have been allowed” ???!!!??? You mean all 20 million illegals disappeared since the amnesty bill failed? Maybe now he suddenly thinks Chertoff will deport them? WTF?

“but then what happens if the economy goes into recession and many more Americans need to find jobs and there aren’t any available to them?”

All I can tell you is that where I live, people trip all over each other trying to get jobs that pay $9.00/hour. There are plenty of people here that work these kinds of jobs and are damn glad to have them. There simply are not enough jobs of any kind to go around.

This is about one thing and one thing only: the lowest possible labor costs for business... let the taxpayers pick up the costs for health care and schooling.

I am beyond disgusted with Bush and wish that I had never voted for him. I have developed an intense dislike of the man.

How bout fighting the Dems for a change???

Why should we. Bush has been on their side more than he has for conservatives, you know, the people who risked their neck for him in two elections.

Try unplanting your lips from his backside for a change and discover reality.

No one is against immigrants. We just want them admitted to fill actual needs at a controlled and assimilatable (?) rate.

We can prove that hiring illegal immigrants literally adds up to slave labor.

I think he did get it pretty right on the war. The Dems and the MSM have spewed the mantra of "Bush lied", No weapons of mass destruction, unverified intelligence and fake intelligence so much that people tend to forget many of the truths about this war.

First, there were weapons of mass destructioin--not nuclear, but biological andchemical--they were only working toward nuclear..It has begun to come out about the weapons being transferred. The Clinton Admin. had the same intel and reached the same conclusions.

Superceding the WMD was regime change--also desired by Clinton. After all, Hussein had broken his promises made to stop the Gulf War and had ignored 17 sanctiions by the UN. He was also wheeling and dealing in oil, finding ways to get around the Oil for Food program.

Since the regime change, however, our military has been strapped by PC Rules of Engagement, and the MSM and Dems are working overtime to turn Iraq into another Vietnam, which it definitely is not.

Because the migrant workers actually plant and harvest our Food.

You failed to mention the millions of Americans who do farmwork. And they're all legally in the U.S.!
