Bush: Americans will realize need for aliens
The Washington Times ^ | July 20, 2007 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 07/20/2007 6:17:46 PM PDT by Baladas

President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.

Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.

If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.

"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."

Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

There are plenty of decent jobs for dropouts. Nobody wants to do the migrant work that Mexicans are doing. Take a drive out in the farmlands if you don’t believe me.

I live in NC last week when I was at the local grocery store most of the produce was from other countries. The green onions were from Mexico.
This is July and my local grocer offers foreign produce. No wonder I prefer the Farmer’s Markets.

They are coming across the border ILLEGALLY because there are Americans employers who want cheap slave labor and don’t want to run a business LEGALLY.

If anyone cannot run a business in the UNITED STATES of AMERICA without BREAKING THE LAW- they need to pack up shop and get a job....AFTER they serve jail time for breaking the law.

It took nearly 40 posts before the Slavery line. What a joke you are. Never knew slaves came to America on their own.

Let’s get this straight, you want to protect the slaves by Rounding them up and herding them back to Mexico. Your compassion is underwhelming.

Oh yeah. COMPASSIONATE conservatives. We are supposed to be compassionate now. Thanks for reminding me.

And since you are such an enlightened individual, please parse through ALL of my posts here at FR and point out where I advocate rounding up illegals. You speak from absolute ignorance, my braying FRiend.

So correct me if I'm wrong: You support an illegal workforce who are here and are intentionally exploited. And since they are exploited with their consent, that's A-OK... despite the fact that it is ILLEGAL in this country and the majority of people (citizens) REJECT this practice.

So if the slaves consent to being slaves, that's okay?

While you reply I'll be here rolling up a dunce cap for you to wear.

You can try to overlook the lawbreaking all you want but the simple fact is that those who hire illegals are no better than crack dealers. The difference is that these crack dealers buy politicians to pass laws that prevent Americans from seeking cheaper things like medicines outside the country.

Like unloading railroad boxcars. It’s unbelievably hot inside those things. Hot. Dirty. The boxes are heavy. I didn’t know I wasn’t willing to do that work, because I didn’t have Dubya around to tell me only a Mexican would be willing to do it.

He has the gall to talk about illegal immigration after he got his head handed to him on a platter by the public outcry over the amnesty bill. Good grief, Charlie Brown.

Dear Mr. President,

Have you completely lost every trace cell of your brain? Is every able-bodied or able American employed? No.

Our first priority should be to secure our borders and completely eliminate all illegal workers in the country (regardless of supposed cost).

We then discourage people from living off the public dole by cutting benefits to those who CHOOSE to not work.

Then, when unemployment is down to a fraction of 1% (what I consider “full employment”), we then redo the LEGAL immigration system to allow in ONLY those workers we need to fill unfilled jobs after ALL able-bodied AMERICANS are put to work. We then continue to manage our immigration via a similar scheme - where we only allow in immigrants as we NEED them.

And we have a list of requirements for those wanting to come here - first and foremost - learn ENGLISH, then follow our rules. You are not to try to force us to adjust or adapt to YOU, you are to adapt to US - assimilate. And keep in mind, that you are here for the term of your VISA. You MAY apply for an extension of you VISA, but you must apply BEFORE the expiration of your current VISA. If there is not a job for you, you must go home unless you are here on in a legal step to becoming a US Citizen. Upon expiration of your VISA, or denial of extension, you must immediately return to your country of origin.

And children born in the US - they will no longer function as “anchor babies”. They may be Citizens, but they must return with you to your country of origin unless you are in a LEGAL track to become a citizen yourself through proper applications and procedure.

I heard someone today say what the number of days left in his term is, but I didn’t write it down. It’s something like 550.

Yes, Mr Bush, LEGAL ALIENS NOT ILLEGAL ALIENS!”There is a huge supply of excellent workers eager to immigrate legally in Phillipines, South Korea, Veitnam, and China. And these people are willing to assimilate here, not take over our southwest. They are skilled agricultural workers and become good citizens of our country.

"..President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month..."

The guy doesn't know when to shut up.

That is true, what is really sad is that I don't think the man has enough brains to know the number of temporary worker programs that are on the books and the number of people allowed to work under these programs.

I will truly be happy the day he leaves office and I deeply regret having voted for him.

and we need more citizens or our social security system will collapse

Thus the reason the entire SS system must be privatized. And your benefits should be directly tied to the ACTUAL contribution you made - much like an IRA/Annuity is.

Nothing in the US Constitution mandates (or even authorizes) the Federal Government exact a tax on working citizens to pay for retirement benefits for retirees and those who cannot (or claim to not be able to) work.

You’re better than the slave line. They are working here of their own free will. It is called the free market which is what Conservatives used to support. We need farm workers.

Pray for W and Our Troops

I sometimes wonder if the president is pushing for amnesty this hard because, when looking at the big picture, he sees the need for a larger military in the near future. We talk all the time about how we're in a struggle between civilizations and we get irritated when we sense that Democrats and liberals don't seem to understand this. Unfortunately, a struggle of the size perceived by FReepers (and possibly the president) requires soldiers, more than we have now. We've heard comments about enlarging the military, and this is one sure way to do it: increase the pool of likely recruits.

That being said, the president probably knows he would get a truckload of crap if anyone in the administration said that publicly, so we have to have our intelligence belittled by this whole "we need labor" and "they need to feed their families" song and dance.

I hope I was coherent. For the record, I am strongly against any amnesty for lawbreakers, but lately this notion has been popping into my head. I would rather believe that this is a hidden motive than believe that the president is just that bull-headed and tone-deaf about this.
