"When we first voted on establishing a national language, Germanic almost won."
I have never, ever heard of any such vote ever being held in this country at any time in its history. There is also no language called "Germanic" that I am familiar with. Please fill me in.

Hey, I am supposed to be asking the questions :> . At any rate, here is a diagram showing the Indo-European Branches of the Language Tree. Apparently, even English is considered Germanic, but hey, I am 1/2 Celtic Scottish and only 1/4 Austrian. So we did end up speaking a Germanic language after all thanks to all those Angles, Saxons and Normans.

German, and the vote could have been about whether legal documents would be in German (along with English?) for the federal government. It was supposed to have lost by a single vote.
