Man found hanged in cell after court verdict (THAT HE WAS TO BE SENT TO FRANCE)

A 39-year-old man was found dead in custody in Malmö on Saturday morning. The man had committed suicide, a day after being told that he was to be deported to France.

He had been in custody for almost three months while the appeal court considered his case.

"The fact that he had a negative decision from the appeal court did not mean any special measures from our side. Here we have a normal daily routine with such decisions," said the head of the Malmö remand centre, Hans Svensson.

The 39-year-old, who was a Swedish citizen, had not been under special supervision. He had contact with staff during mealtimes, showers and walks.

He was not considered to be a high suicide risk since the crime he was alleged to have committed would not result in a harsh sentence if he was found guilty.

Nor did the man react particularly strongly on Friday when the verdict came from the appeal court. Staff informed him that he was entitled to appeal to the Supreme Court.

The man was found dead just after 8am on Saturday, less than 24 hours after the appeal court's decision. He had hanged himself from the toilet door frame with torn sheets.

Police carried out a search of the cell on Saturday. The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is to launch its own inquiry.

He must have killed someone if they were planning on sending him to France—even though he was a Swedish citizen.

OK, the frenchies DO eat odd creatures and break weather in public, but France is actually not as bad as some people believe it to be.

“Why to France??”

- Perhaps he tried to blow up a Swedish nuclear plant and slaughter our royal family or something in that direction.

Understandable. I suspect that prison in France would be pretty
awful.
Either you'd have to endure a lot of smugness.
Or endless, pointless philosophical ramblings from your fellow inmates
that are hardcore existentialists.

But myself, I'd probably stay alive and just look for someway to
make a Great Escape.
Unless it turned out the French prison chow was good enough for
The Michelin Guide.

Wow, so many...empty parts of that story, don’t know what to think. Being deported to France as a Swedish citizen? Perhaps a translation error, and it involves extradition? Was he an immigrant from France? Something wrong with his papers or something?

Got me, but rare has been the time that I’ve seen an article with so few details in it.

The man had committed suicide, a day after being told that he was to be deported to France.

Apparently, there are no provisions against 'cruel and unusual' punishment in Sweden.

The article does not say if he was being deported, or extradited. I suspect the later. Nations do not usually deport their citizens, unless that citizenship was obtained fraudulently.

His crime in France may have been more serious than either the Swedish or French authorities know, but he feared they would discover in the course of the French legal proceedings.

That would do it for me.

“The 39-year-old, who was a Swedish citizen,...”

- I’m a 37 year old Swede. I admit to having visited France this year, 2007. I enjoyed it a lot.

I’m very happy I didn’t wait till the year of 2009.

Next you'll be telling me that Islam is the 'religion of peace.'

glad you had a nice trip!

You could go again in 2009?

This guy must have had some other problems. Big problems.

Not being a smart alec here, but that does not answer the question. Muzzies often do not make any attempts to fit into western culture.
