Solzhenitsin slams West policy towards Russia
Voice of Russia ^ | 25.07.2007 | Voice of Russia

Posted on 07/26/2007 5:43:10 AM PDT by JohnA

In an interview with German Der Spiegel magazine, famous Russian writer and the Nobel laureate Alexander Solzhenitsyn, has accused the West of trying to ignore and sideline Russia. He said that quite often western criticism is unfair. Russia is only starting to build democracy and it's all too easy to take it to task with a long list of omissions, violations and mistakes. Mr. Solzhenitsyn has reproached U.S for its inability to demonstrate goodwill for Mr. Putin`s friendly steps. In his opinion, only a psychological inadequacy or a disastrous shortsightedness can explain such approach. Alexander Solzhenitsyn praises Vladimir Putin for rebuilding the country.

“Putin is not a Communist, he is a Russian nationalist. There is something in the Russian psyche that demands they must be a “maverick” country, just for the sake of being mavericks.”

OK, I won’t argue with that. The Russians are an interesting people.

If he’s a troll, he’s been here since 2004.

Oh I know Putin’s fmr rank. And I know it isn’t what you make it out to be. Make what you will of it. MSM has already done so.

Thanks for the link to Der Speigle.
I just finished reading the whole interview. I suggest others do the same.
I wouldn’t characterize what Solzhenitsyn said quite the same way as this Voice of Russia did, which I assume is a Voice of Putin.

I like Estonians.

Cool

I daresay there are many Russians who do too.

Of course no such Russian has worked in the Kremlin for the last 60 (or more) years.

I live in a city whose population is almost that of Estonia. We North Americans shouldn’t get into these uniquely Eastern European food fights. They have a way of arguing which is a bit foreign to us and they manage to get over their spats. If we get dragged in, we can embarrass ourselves.

You’re right. The church is the only “truth” they’ve ever had the past 100’s of years.

Not Stalin, so much as a strong central authority.

No. I am the great-grandson of an officer in the Preobroesynky Regiment. (The Imperial Guard).

I detest communism, and I am no “agent” of the Kremlin.

And you are obviously a Slav-Hater.

One other thing. The Ukraine is the breadbasket of Russia.
And traditionally, a part of the Russian Empire.

Stalin killed EVERYBODY. It didn’t matter where you were from.

Okay, this is confusing. Solzhenitsyn is a hero to those very rightwingers who claim the Soviet Union never fell and the illusion that it did is a Communist plot. So how will they react to Solzhenitsyn’s endorsement of Putin?

You are so predictable. I have not visited this forum for a year or so. If there is something that does not change, it is your spitful tone. Boring.

“Pigeonholes are understood by pigeons.”

Interesting - funny, in all my years in Canada, I have never heard that - sounds more like “One Life, One Kopec” an old Russian Saying meaning Russians have no respect for lives.

Exactly - PAtton should have taken the last two nukes and dropped them on Moscow and St Petersburg - 60 millionlives would have bewen saved and gazillions of dollars.

“I am the great-grandson of an officer in the Preobroesynky Regiment. (The Imperial Guard).”

Ah - another fine chapter in the history of Russia - the Imperial govt that killed one Ukrainian for every pile sunk in the swamp that was St Petersburg - and the piles are every 3 meters.

That govt only killed several million.

So do you know any good Catherine stories?

Whoaa Wilburrrrr!

BWAHAHAHAHAHA
