It would help if the bishops who were behind the cover up criminally prosecuted as accessories after the fact And would this be the responsibility of the Church or the authorities in various localities?

Shouldn’t it be the responsibility of the Church to fire, expunge, excommunicate, reform (if that’s even possible), and cooperate with and encourage the prosecution of pedophile priests and to some degree their enablers? Given the world-wide reach of the Church, perhaps prosecution by local authorities would not be as effective as federal.
