Many people that are fit, still fall into the overweight chart. I just checked my husband’s weight/height ratio and he would be listed as overweight, yet he exercises everyday and doesn’t have an inch of fat on him. Muscle weighs more than fat, so a well muscled person will appear to be overweight according to that chart.
” Muscle weighs more than fat, so a well muscled person will appear to be overweight according to that chart.”
yes...the BMI index is useless in this regard.
The better measurements come from caliper pinch measurements or underwater weighing in determing percentage of body fat.
If companies truly want to reward fit people who have developed strong muscles, many of those people are going to fall into the “overweight” category on the BMI chart.
A short legged man of 6’ height will weigh much more than a long legged man of 6’ height. This throws things off alot. Also, a man with very large hands and feet and head will weigh much more than one with small hands and feet and head. These things need to be considered.
Most of the time though, when someone claims they are overwheight because of muscle, they are wrong. It’s merely rationalizing and lying to one’s self.
Yeah, I’m at about 8% bodyfat and, according to this, I’m pretty overweight...funny stuff.
