A fight is brewing in New York between some families of September 11 victims and the city over where to hold an annual memorial ceremony after officials said the World Trade Center site was an unsafe venue.

The memorial has been held every year at Ground Zero but this year construction is taking place and city officials ruled it unsafe. They have relocated the ceremony to a nearby park.

With all due respect, this nonsense has to stop. Ground Zero is some of the most valuable property in the world. It is not a cemetary and it isn't going to be turned into a park. That it took five years for an actual reclamation of the space to begin should be considered a national embarassment.

And where do the victims' families have standing to run to the courts to impede the development of the site? If they feel so strongly about it, why haven't they gotten together to purchase the property outright?

It is long past time for the rebuilding to go forward.

I’d say they should rebuild the towers as they were, but 911 feet higher.

but 911 feet higher"

On second thought, that may be a bit much, but you get the idea...

this has been in the local nyc news for a few weeks now. quite frankly, these families have to stop. they held up development because they felt they didn't have ENOUGH INPUT! stop already. it has been nearly six years!

i wonder if the Oklahoma families acted this way. actually, i can pretty much say they didn't.

anything having to do with the site, and these families just have to be in front of a camera. actually, it's only a handful, but they are very vocal and give everyone a bad rap, imho.

No, I think your first thought was exactly right, if not brilliant!

" No, I think your first thought was exactly right, if not brilliant!"

I think the very existence of the rebuilt towers themselves is all the memorial this nation needs, and being 911 feet higher memorializes that day specifically. My previous thoughts of it being "a bit much" were because there were 110 stories before, 911 feet taller, would be ALLOT taller. How many stories would that be? Is it possible? If so, then I'd be all for it! I know there have been some crazy tall buildings built in various places around the world since then, so who knows.

19 feet higher would be enough to tick off Louis Farrakhan.

That would be about 180 stories.

The Dubai guys are building a ~160 story tower. We should show that ours is bigger, no matter what ...

Sounds great to me! Now lets go tell those idiots who are fumbling about with this to get with the project.
