Romney's honesty problem
The Boston Globe ^ | August 9, 2007 | Joan Vennochi

MITT ROMNEY is determined to prove he's pro-life. How about proving he's pro-truth?

Every time Romney tries to explain his evolution from supporter to opponent of abortion rights, his honesty comes into question. That's because his explanations over the years don't add up.

The biggest problem I see from all this is that Mitt comes across as a candidate who will say whatever he thinks necessary to win an election.

So, then, which of his recent conservative ephipanies are heartfelt, and which are opportunistic? Recall that not long ago, he was supportive of the legislative direction of McCain-Kennedy. Is his conversion to anti-illegal-immigration real? Or will he try to revert back to Bush-Graham-McCain form once he no longer needs the votes of the right?

Nothing new here, just the Boston Globe Democrat trying to spread more disharmony among Republicans. Nice try, but they’ve got enough disharmony in their own party to worry about.

Mitt has rightfully been called, not a "middle-of-the-road" politician, but a "cover-the-road" politician.

Which is why, at some point, he must end up here:

I knew it would take less than a half-dozen posts before someone would attack the piece because it comes from a Globe columnist.

Romney signed socialized medicine, complete with taxpayer-funded abortions, into law LAST YEAR.

That fact outweighs anything the man can say now that he wants and needs pro-life votes.

Dang, can hardly be IBTEV if you are the original thread poster!

EV, would you say that Romney's perfidy knows no bounds, or that there are bounds?

Romney’s “perfidy,” to use your word, is only bound by political expediency.

Yes! Material from the ultra-Liberal, Mitt-hating Boston Globe!

If it's from the Liberal Media, it must be true! Don't we all know and trust the Liberal Media here on Free Republic?

Pffffffffft.

Address the content.

After looking at Romney’s actual record, do you find his current rhetoric to be credible?

Anyone else stunned the Boston Globe is ‘going there’?

Mitt-hating

I find that humorous, in context. After all, the Boston Globe was Romney's primary vehicle for getting his liberal message out when he was trying [successfully] to gain the support of Massachusetts liberals.

I don't know why anybody would be surprised that the Left has viciously turned on Mitt, since he has at least partially renounced his promised undying fealty to their pro-abort, pro-gay, agenda.

Address the content.

Do you hold the same standards for anti-Bush, anti-Republican and anti-conservative smear pieces from the New York Times?

...or is this level of deference just for the Boston Globe, since they're fellow Mitt-haters?

The standard is the truth.

And, although this liberal writer gets a few things wrong, in this case her primary point is glaringly, obviously, accurate: Mitt Romney is dishonest.
