FLORIDA LOSES DEMOCRAT VOTE

Florida decided to change its primary date to January 29th. Democrat Party rules say that the states can't hold their primaries before February 5th, except for Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and South Carolina. This was designed to "preserve the traditional roles" of selecting nominees.

On Saturday, Democrats decided to strip Florida of all of its presidential convention delegates unless it changed its date. This means that the fourth largest state (210 delegates) would not have votes for the 2008 nominating convention in Denver next summer.

The state party has been given 30 days to comply by moving the primary after February 5th.

Florida's congressional delegation says that this may be cause for a voting rights investigation.

What fun. While they're at it, perhaps they can strip some votes from all states with a large military presence. That's what the Democrat Party tried to do in Florida in 2000!

So the Democrat party can do whatever they want. Not all states even have pres. primary elections to pick delegates to conventions.

That's the way i understand it. As such, I have always wondered why they *get to* use tax payer money to hold primary elections. Should be funded by the party IMO.

Katherine Harris counted the Florida votes while Howard Dean said the Florida votes don’t count. Ironic, isn’t it?

Yep, a democrat is a democrat is a democrat. Regardless of Pelosi's anger at being referred to as a "democrat" and not a representative of the "Democratic" party by President Bush, they are still democrats.

...Solution ? Change the name of the Republican Party BACK to: The Democratic Republican Party...

I love it, hehehehehe. Great suggestion.

The Constitution says nothing about primary elections, so no trouble there.

I’ve never understood the point of calling them the “Democrat” party. A cheap linguistic trick that can’t have any influence on undecided voters and sounds petty.

State law not the Democrat Party of Florida established the Florida State Primary, and the Florida State Law affects both the Democrat and the Republican Primaries. The Constitutional argument comes into play with the 10th Amendment.

Kinda funny the Dimwit party denying folks the right to pick their candidate via a vote.

If this holds true then the state should force the Democrat party of FL to pick-up the tab of any worthless primary held in the state.

I fail to see the constitutionality of this too. Folks can vote in the general election. If they have no voice in picking their candidate I suggest they take it up with their party.

O.K. it is state law that regulates primaries. So the AG of State of Florida can tell the DNC they have no say in the matter. Florida state law will regulate the primary!

Seems the DNC does not agree with your assessment on this matter, though and the AG hasn't gotten involved so far. Maybe the next 29 days will tell.

BTW - The 10th amendment has been shredded by our congresscritters. It means what they WANT it to mean - not what our forefathers wanted it to mean. Want to start a 10th Amendment thread concerning ABORTION or maybe even seat belt laws!

Personally I hate the primary process. Iowa should not determine who the national canidate is. And New Hampshire? There should be one day in April or May where the entire nation gets to vote. And if the precious Iowans or New Hampshire residents don’t like it, tough.

Then we'll go right back to the smoky back-room media-engineered method of choosing presidential candidates that we had before New Hampshire delegates introduced the primary system. Right into a system where the man with the most pull, fattest wallet, or the nicest haircut, gets the nod, not the man with the most compelling ideas for the direction of this country.

You can't get the measure of a man from an attack ad or a Hollywood-produced 30-second ad in the same way that you can by looking him in the eye, shaking his hand, and asking him the hard questions like we do here in New Hampshire.

If you don't like that New Hampshire votes first, move into the Nashua Motel-6 at least thirty days in advance and vote in the primary yourself.

This is what both the Republican and Democrat Parties get when they tap into the State Treasury and have laws written so that the State general election machinery is used to conduct internal Party popular vote primaries to select general election candidates. Their greed allowed the Legislatures of the several States to dicated when a party’s primary could be held.

The two major and the several minor political parties are PRIVATE organizations, they would not have to obey any dictates of a State Legislature IF the State was not spending any money or providing facilities for voting. The reason for this ‘early primary’ insanity by State Legislatures is due to the dereliction of the National Party organizations. If they both funded the primaries (as they do State conventions) then they could tell the State Legislatures to take a hike and enforce primary/convention dates according to their dictates.

When you take the King’s coin, you are the King’s man...
